I know we have to have some collectors on here. Always been interested in high end pens but don't know much about them. I do have a nice mont blanc fountain pen though, post some pics or a run down of what you guys have

I've found the most pleasant pens to write with are Pilot Precise V5's.
I've tried fountain pens, and while they have an elegance, I find them unreliable.

I like to use a Gene Burke fountain pen I got from WorldLux.

The 14k gold nib is very reliable, Zanthal. Get a good quality one.

I cannot write with ball point pens at all.

Vintage Fountain Pens are a Fun but Very Expensive hobby.

I have a 1938 Parker Vacumatic LG, and a 1939 Parker Vacumatic single jewel both in Golden Pearl.

Also Have the Schaffer 1940 military F.pen/Ball point set in red (short pocket clasps)

Have a few sets of the Schaffer from the 50s.
As far as a Monteblanc goes they are on the cheap side of collectable pens, Krone, Nakimi/pilot, can run 5-7k ea.
Look around here, http://www.fountainpenhospital.com/?src=navhome , very nice people, did both the restorations on my Parkers.

I generally write with a Mont Blanc ball point but for letters (yes I still do that on occassion) I write with a Namiki retractible nib fountain penor an older Peliken fountain. Having gone to Catholic school it was a fountain pen or nothing when learning cursive writing. They are beautiful instruments.

That's a fine writing instrument there, Philip.
I suppose the 'unreliability' comes from my unsteadiness of hand while writing, moreso than from fountain pens themselves.
I have atrocious handwriting unless I cramp my hand up trying to be an artiste, anyhow.

It's funny, my wife and I were just talking about our pens and writing not long ago. I used to do a lot of Calligraphy and have several sets of nice pens of different styles. They are all in a roll-top desk that hasn't been open in about 12 years or so. Since the computer age, I hardly 'write' anything unless I'm signing a birthday card. I haven't written a check in years and we print our grocery list.

I used to carry a Parker Duofold (red marbled acrylic) and Gold Mont Blanc roller ball pen. I want to get a Bexley. Pens are a rather disgusting habit, for they tend to lead one down the path of fine watches, shoes, brief cases and other manly appointments..

I love fountain pens, I have Marlen Odyseus, 4 Piolt Vanshing Points, Pilot Decimo, Lamy 2000, Pelikans, Sailors, Visconti's. I love the way they write and the amazing selections of inks.

Growing up in England we were only allowed to use proper pens (fountain pens) in school. Now I'm addicted to Pentel EnerGel 0.7mm metal tip liquid gel pens. You can leave them uncapped for days and they still write. Also, you can make unlimited dots with them, the true test of a good pen :) I think it's a shame the kids today are more familiar with tiny keyboards and touchscreens.

Love seeing fellow fountian pen collectors on here!

I have 12 or 13 FP's myself, nothing too expensive, mostly Lamys & Kawecos, but planning to add a Waterman, Twsbi, and Mont Blanc to my collection in a few months. And I don't care for ink cartridges, it's either vacuum converters or eyedropper conversions all the way! That way you are free to use every amazing color and brand of FP, ink you wish!

(Check out gouletpens.com (no affiliation, but love their selection)

To me, using a cartridge is like smoking a ciggarette, both are pre-filled with a limited selection of product and disposable. But a converter...that's like a good cob or briar, fill it with whatever your current favorite may be, and enjoy again and again!
