From mlive.com of Michigan:
Paul Spaniola, founder and owner of Paul's Pipe Shop, died at 100
FLINT, MI--Paul Spaniola, who opened the Flint icon Paul's Pipe Shop, died today in his home surrounded by family. He was 100.... Spaniola went into business at 15 years old opening a pool hall. Two years later, in 1930, he opened Paul's Tavern and Pipe Shop in Swartz Creek, the business that would later move to downtown Flint and be known throughout the pipe-smoking community across the globe.
Read all about it, and see a nice photo slideshow here.

It's a shame he had to go. But living to be 100, still puffin and surrounded by family and friends, Is a great life lived.

Paul was a giant in the hobby. I have a Cayuga, as well as other pipes purchased from him. He did good, honest business, and made first rate pipes. We have all lost a good friend. No doubt his smoking habit contributed to his early death. I always use him as a sterling example of the dangers of pipe smoking. Rest in peace, Paul--you were a living icon to all of us.
