I had no one to teach me to smoke pipes. With sites like this, and trial-and-error, I had to teach myself how to smoke patiently and properly.
As did I and many others. May the pipe Gods bless, Kevin, Bob and the rest who put this little oasis together ans Lawrence, Bubba, Jason and the others that keep it running more like a forum and less like a zoo!
One more thing...

Great story. I know my grandfather has quite a few pipes around still. He's foregone the pipe for sticks in recent years, though I'm not entirely sure why, but I know he still has a bowl on occasion. I hope to have a celebratory smoke with him on my return from deployment. I know he'll be gone soon (well, sooner than I'd like), and I hope his collection finds good use in the hands of one of my uncles.
