Does this sort of thing mean error prone-robots/AI are now "reporters"? Or that human reporters are "writing" by dictation (and not checking the output because that would take an extra ten seconds). Or that today's human reporters wouldn't have passed sixth grade English forty years ago?

The answer is all of the above.

But what is far worse than the writing is the public being told to "give them your car".

But it's not surprising when you've got stories like this one...female cop just sits in car and watches as mob brutally attacks man and destroys car right in front of her:

According to NBC6, the man stopped his car in the middle of the road in front of the police car. He then got out of the car to talk to the officer.

On his way back to the car, he was jumped by the thugs who beat him with a bike and demolished his car.

The female officer stayed in her car while the man was brutally beaten.

Not having to buy your own correction tape for a typewriter anymore is the downfall of all human typing.
Auto correct and spell check have ruined a society.

Being a professional of any sort just means you get paid for it - not that you are any good at it.

"...putting the appropriate recourses there, and when we catch people, making attests..."

Are you somehow against recourses making attests?!? :)

I suspect the issue is that TV stations never had good copy editing for their web sites. "Spell check's good enough for us!"

"Attention to detail", where has it gone?
Gone. Decades gone. We live in a TINY town. Our paper is a county wide affair. They can't even get basic names of our student athletes right. This was common back in WA when we would get Portland, OR papers. I try to tell my students, when you line up people and start a story at one end, it is anyone's guess what pops out the dude's mouth at the other end. News is like that. Conflicting sources, deadlines, and yes, attention to detail went out years ago. But now with the rising of activists where journalists used to be, it is gone forever. I tell the kids that, at best, papers and news sources are a base guideline for where to start your independant research if you are interested in a topic.

I see numerous uncorrected typos in news articles. I think that the problem today is that paying for proofreaders has gone the way of the dodo.
I think it's a combination of this and that whole 24-hour news/content creation, there's not enough time to proofread everything, too busy cranking out the next thing... and with ridiculous productivity pressure and quota demands, you start rushing more to meet the mark and make more mistakes.

most of these things come from the police. And it's kind of considered wrong to tamper with them in any way. Most police departments have either a media or communications department.
Or in other words this is what happens when you make the unpaid interns do the press release.

My mother, back in the 1980's cut this photo out of our local newspaper. Read the caption.

She thought it was so funny that shitload made it into the newspaper.

After my mother passed, I inherited this newspaper clipping. Knowing that my mother kept it for all these years and now, I have it...it makes me smile. Thanks Mom.
