I'd post a review if I had tried it, Kevin... Not available in my neck of the woods.
I will comment though that that chap could use a little objectivity while writing his reviews. I doubt it is as vile as he says, even if it is bad; we could have used a discussion of the smoking experience rather than receiving a flurry of negative adjectives alone. He didn't even rate any of the attributes on the side. No offense to rattdog, just saying he could stand to be a little more constructive or at least more convincing. I've seen reviewers find merits in the scorned Mixture 79 even though they pan it overall. To date, I haven't tried something I'd NEVER smoke, mostly just blends I wouldn't bother to smoke or blends that wouldn't combust well enough to smoke. I know we are talking about tobacco reviews and they don't demand the impartiality of a judge, but it helps to be a little openminded.

Paladin Black Cherry is one of my favorite OTCs.

It's rich, sweet, and flavorful.

Granted it is a "flavored" tobacco, but when I want cherry flavor... I want cherry flavor.

My 2 cents.

This was one of my first tobaccos, black cherry, can't be bad, but it's too rich,

too sweet and too flavorful and it bites. I got a harsh, chemical taste from smoking

this tobacco and ended up blending it with some PA. Give it a try if you like full flavor aromatics, but it's not for me.

I had some out of the box pass and I kinda liked it . Can you say very cherry . Sometimes we pipe smokers get carried away with our fancy tins and high dollar blends . Then we smoke a little drug store blend and just dont want to admit that it was good or that we liked it .

Schmitzbitz,

I'm with you halfway - I almost feel like ordering Paladin from all this just to share my own opinion on it. I could use a guilty pleasure! With that said I probably won't go to all the hassle when I still have a lot of worthier tobaccos to buy instead.
I'll be eating crow if I ever try it and find it awful, but I just took exception to the blend's outright dismissal without many reasons put forth. I just smoked my first bowl of Penzance and was very underwhelmed on my first impression, but I'm not about to write a couple reviews saying it's all hype and no substance. Apples and oranges, I know, but my point is that I feel like giving most tobaccos a fair shot no matter what they are.
Strongirish,

I've read many of your reviews on TR.com and found them all very useful - that makes all the difference. I buy most of my tobaccos based on the collective judgments of other pipe smokers that I've read. I appreciate a negative review if it is articulate and spells out a blend's faults. My only argument was that posting "Avoid" would have been just as meaningful as the review in question, it may very well be a poor blend for all I know.

Its been many years since I've smoked Paladin. I'd reckon that every pipe smoker has spent time with a cherry blend. I did buy a tin of CAO's Cherry Bomb last summer and it was pretty good but in the end I donated it to the smoking bar at the B&M.

My only attempt at a cherry blend was Gawith Hoggarth Top Black Cherry and I wasn't able to get it lit, even with extended drying. Too dang moist. I imagine that Paladin is either just as bad or ten times worse. I cut my teeth on little cherry cigars years ago, I do have some lingering nostalgia for the flavour.
Lawrence, how do you find the moisture/rate of combustion/physical smoking experience of this blend? Decent? Everyone seems to be up in arms about the flavour; that seems to be divisive, and I'm willing to chance that I could go either way but I simply don't want something that's a hassle to light.
Also, do you find it bites?

Argh, now I'm going to have to order a pouch of Paladin Black Cherry and a tin of Mixture 79 just to see what everyone is complaining about...
Might want a sacrificial pipe to go along with an order like that. 8O
