Hey guys I'm quickly developing a PAD problem, there are two pipes at my local B&M that I am in love with, and I can only afford one of the two at the moment, they are both savinelli sandblasts the only difference is one is a billiard, and the other is a dublin...My question is is there any difference in the way those two bowl geometries will smoke that I can use to make a decision?

Between a Dublin and a Billiard specifically, the practical difference is that Dublins tend to keep more material at the top of the bowl, but less at the bottom.

I have read that because of the combination of the shape and that Dublins commonly have a bend, that some configurations can lead to thin walls at the bottom of the bowl. If you specifically smoke your tobacco hot, and right to the bottom every time, Dublins might be something a person should avoid.

But that's a pretty fringe scenario.
Otherwise they'll be practically identical.

The only common pipe shape that I know usually has a different shape on the inside of the bowl, is a Bulldog, they usually have rounded bottoms instead of tapered.

If you are a new smoker, as well as a new member, and don't have many pipes, I'd go for the billiard, unless you really covet the Dublin. The billiard is a classic shape and will accommodate many if not all blends and cuts. Buy the Dublin next time you can buy a pipe. They're both grand old traditional shapes.

BUY BOTH!

(Sorry, that's the international standard response to any question involving the purchase of one item over another.)
Sorry, but regarding PAD my mind isn´t capable to come up with a different answer....

Alright the billiard it is...although I might shed a quiet tear for the Dublin on my way out of the store...I'll be back for him soon!

I am fairly new too, and only have a couple of briars. My billiard is my most versatile pipe, and a Savinelli to boot. Mine is a Lumberman, but for bowl purposes, its a billiard. It smokes everything really, really well. I think you'll be very happy with your purchase.

Dublin or both! I have many Dublin pipes in bent stems and have never had a problem with one. Like Bull Dogs, for me they have personality.
