Until recently, I’ve never really smoked anything but good ol’ ribbon cut. And anything that I get that comes flake or cube, I just rub out and tin/jar up.
Need help.
Any advice on how to best prep and pack this for maximum enjoyment?
Depending on how much it is I’d spilt into 2 separate pint Ball jars. I’d first cut the flake in half for proper storage.
And, as far as prep for smoking:
1. Grab a flake and fold or ball it up in your palm.
2. Give it a good rub
3. Let dry on tray or paper towel for a bit if you wish.
4. I gently twist the tobacco into the bowl & gently press the top down.
I break off 2 three-quarter inch pieces with a thumbnail, pull it apart, rub it in the palm of my hand a couple of times, and shove it in fairly moist.
Cast aside all knives, coffee grinders, microwaves etc, and trample them to dust.
I kinda did a hybrid of both @Simmerdown☕️@Morrison Jeremiah suggestions. Rubbed & balled in my hand. Took that ball and stuffed. The. Took the pieces that had fallen during the rub and pressed on top to make it all a little easier to smoke.
Smoking it now. Burning clean, cool, & consistent.
Many thanks.
Had a bowl last night where I folded and packed. It didn’t go so well. Relight after relight.
Fold across width, then length ball up and roll around in hands a couple of times to loosen the strands a bit then push into the pipe. Does the trick for me.
Tear of a piece 1 1/2" to 2" long depending on the depth of your bowl. Fold in half length wise then in half width wise. Insert into bowl, push lightly to compress a bit. If you have too much tobacco, pull a few strands out. If not enough, add some loose pieces on top. Don't pack too tight. Light and enjoy.
I usually break it up into ready rub pieces. Basically pull the flake apart into strips and shove those into the pipe without using a lot of force. Works great for me.
