I posted my mishap with P&C a month or so back on another thread but I'll recap briefly here before giving the follow-up...

In the Sutliff exit, I ordered a heap of Eastfarthing from them back in the autumn months, payed with PayPal (big mistake) and a couple of tins from the order hit their backorder system wile others were shipped right away. The full transaction cleared my bank within a few days and the backorder was refreshed in their system for the shorted tins a couple of times till the PayPal authorization lapsed on their end. They called out of the blue and rudely demanded that I owed them money for the shipped tins. I provided proof of full payment from PayPal and my bank and after some back-and-forth, they dropped it and issued a P&C Cash voucher as an apology. The handling of the mishap left a bad taste but I had a substantial voucher burning a hole in my pocket so here we are.

Last month I ordered a Salvanelli Oceano 320 with the voucher and paid the difference with a card this time around. Pipe and some other goodies arrived unscathed but the pipe was defective, cracking above the draft hole on the first use. I called them to report the problem and to their credit, they issued a full refund (re-instating my P&C cash plus the diference to my card) and told me to keep the pipe! I was also surprised to learn in this fiasco that the rep who handled the issue was the same woman who used to work for Tobacco Pipes and Cup O' Joe's (Amy) who I had the pleasure of speaking with when I had placed phone orders with those sites in the past.

Not only am I glad that STG had handled my issue in the most awesome way possible but also that they had employed the former staff from their newly acquired and defunct sites rather than just laying them off!

Does this give them a full-on pass for the situation they have created for all of us in the pipe smoking world, no. But, it does soften the blow a tad on my perspective for them.

I repaired the 320 with some pipe mud and ended up sending it off to Ben at Redeemed Pipes with knowledge of its history along with some other pipes so I'm in a full net-positive here with a new order to place. Maybe one of those Peterson Short 268's will take its place on my pipe rack soon.

This was just my situation but I hope it may mean a better outcome for others in the future...

Good on you for sticking it out to a (relatively) happy ending. I should get in touch with Amy and see if she can get them to start sending me those damn catalogs again. Of course, I'd have to call repeatedly, hang up every time a man answered, ask for a name immediately upon a woman picking up, and hang up immediately if it's anyone other than Amy. Of course, there might be multiple Amys on staff...the prospect of having to then sort through said Amys is simply too much to bear. I think I'll end up sticking with SP. Unless they have several Amys working there too, in which case I may have to switch hobbies entirely... 🤔

I’m guardedly (very guardedly) optimistic hearing that any staff from TPcom made it over.
My biggest comment (as if it matters) during the debacle was a hope that STD could get P&C to be something other than the s*it show it is by integrating the processes that had TPcom an equal to SP/Laudisi in my book.
We’ll see how it pans out, but I’m not jumping to buy anything from them anytime soon. If I chance upon a stupid lore price on something I use, I may give them a shot.

I know my situation is both unique and personal. The end result has not made me a P&C apologist, just a willing consumer whilst things progress in our niche market. At least till they 'eff something up again...

It sounds like you had a very acceptable experience. Letting you keep the pipe and a full refund, can't beat that. I've had nothing but great customer service from SP and Mars, but I doubt either would do that. Most places know that most pipe issues can be relatively easily and cheaply repaired. The usual thing would be to have the pipe replaced. I wish Ed Shultz Chevrolet would have done that back in 2017 when I bought a new lemon Silverado. But no, I had to wait 6 MONTHS for a fix. :)
Smoking Pipes once sent me a BUNCH of tobacco by mistake. When I called, the person said something like "cool, I hope you enjoy it". I was looking to send it back, but they insisted I keep it. Another time they sent me 1/2 pound of McB Symphony when I had ordered 1/2 pound of Virginia #1, so I called them. Days later an entire 1 pound bag of Virginia #1 showed up. And this is why I stick with SP.

The thing that aways got me about TP/CoJ was how bad the search function was on both websites. It would pull up way too many unrelated results. SP has the best website by far.

P&C sent me the wrong pouch one time. Emailed them, and they shipped another out. Turned out it was the same wrong pouch again. Lather, rinse, repeat. It was kind of comical, and I wanted to see how long I could keep the 'Infinite Pouch Glitch' going. I eventually ended up with four of them and after that, they just refunded it.
