Now for something a little out of the ordinary both for me and pipes in general. My friend, John Barrett, aka rekemepip, who gifted me the Native American Ceremonial Pipe I've posted on the forum and is the maker of pipe stone pipes, both black and red, John is experimenting with alternative woods to make pipes, thus far he's used Maple, Hickory, Pear and now Ash which he cures with Honey, as you can see it has a nice bamboo shank and beautiful, nearly reminiscent of horn but is acrylic, stem.

John sells his pipes on the Pipe Smokers Forum 2.0 on Facebook user name Roland Daroadie, he also sells through his Etsy Store as rekemepip, don't know what his inventory is at the moment but he sold 2 of these yesterday within 15 minutes of posting them and he has one he smokes as well. He makes really nice, unique and affordable pipes, cheers.

That is so unusual and gorgeous that it just seems like a sin to smoke it but that would be an adventure in itself. Great acquisition, Banjo!

Neat looking pipe Banjo. I had a table next to John in Chicago my first year. He is really an interesting guy, and generous too. I still have a block of Pipestone he gifted me after the show.

I really like the different colors and transitions on the bowls. They remind me of Japanese pottery a little.

Spencer, I became fascinated with Japanese and Chinese pottery as a museum rat (in the old no admission fee days) at the Chicago Art Institute, not in school there, but as an after school ramble when I was at U of I in Chicago (during the Navy Pier to West Side Campus transition). Later at the British Museum in London and other places, and also at the extravagantly priced Japanese department store on Manhattan, the name of which escapes me, as a window shopper not a customer. Later, I noticed a lot of the influence and technique show up in pottery communities like Seagrove, N.C., where there are dozens of potters' studios. Anyone who has ever observed or participated in the Japanese tea ceremony knows how the pottery not only serves as a tea service but also as objects of contemplation and mediation. Well, that was more than you wanted to know. If I'd had time, I would have edited it down shorter. Anyway, these pipes have that kind of symbiotic relationship with the natural elements in their making.

The pipe came and I loaded it with Bob's Chocolate Flake, it reminds me of smoking a cob, there's a little added aftertaste from the Ash but it is gone about half way through the bowl. I didn't push the smoke and the bowl never got warm, I'm going to continue to get it broken in. In the package was a rusticated olive wood pipe that is about as good of a flake smoker as I've had, put 4 bowls of unscented Germain's Brown Flake through it and it's already beginning to take on some color, first rusticated olive wood I've seen!
