I'm in the USA, and want to give Mick McQuaid's Plug a try, which isn't available in the US. Do any of the American members have any experience ordering from UK retailers?

I've ordered pipes from Invicta with no problems, fast shipping. Haven't ordered tobacco though. I know there's at least one popular UK tobacconist that won't ship to the US.

Ordering tobaccos from UK and European retailers used to be easy. But there are apparently new credit-card restrictions that make it impossible for retailers to accept credit cards for tobacco purchases from US buyers. I have an e-mail out to one such retailer, asking what their work-arounds might be, but it's been weeks since I sent it and I've heard nothing in reply.
Your best option, IMO, is to hook up with a friend in the UK who would be willing to buy it for you and ship it to you. Otherwise, I think you're going to be talking about bank transfers or international checks, and then the whole thing can get very muddled very quickly.

rmbittner is right about this, it's the easiest way to go.

But for larger amounts, there may be a couple of options also, but I have no idea because I haven't tried. it may work out better anyway to go with Mr. Snuff because that vendor is tried 'n true, although expensive.
I was thinking maybe about James Fox,a tobacconist right down the block from Peterson Pipes, he's in the Republic of Ireland, has no USA disclaimers on his site & lists prices in euro. It may be worth a try to look into?

EA Carey will also ship tobo to USA as they're located in Guernsey, but they mostly have only their house brands, however they do say this: "What if I would like to buy something but can’t see it in the catalogue or online? – Please contact us directly as we pride ourselves on being able to supply a much larger range of products than we are able to display. We are also able to process special orders for custom products although timeframes to supply these may of course be much longer than for stock items.", so they might be able to supply the goods?

What I'd really like to happen is for us to start a petition to get some of these tobaccos over here. Scandinavian Tobacco Group owns Capstan, Gold Block, Mick McQuaid, St. Bruno, Warrior, Yachtsman brands among others --- I don't understand why these blends are limited to "local market" and not distributed worldwide?!?!?!? It seems there's enough demand in the USA and they'd sell well, STG also owns Lane Ltd. so it already has the distribution channel in place. They also own Cigars international

http://www.cigarsinternational.com/html/build/PipeBigListDisp.asp, so if they wanted to boost sales they could make CI an exclusive retailer for these brands in the USA!!!
It may be a matter of complicated trademark issues or something like that, but I know for a fact that McQuaid is made by Orlik (STG), it was originally made by PJ Carroll, then bought by Carreras/Rothman's and then ended up with British American Tobacco in 1999 after BAT bought Rothman's and BAT sold it to Orlik in 2007 --- I still don't know why we don't get the full range of Orlik over here either, they're still making Dark Strong Kentucky amongst others that they won't send to the States?!?!?
I've emailed STG asking about this, but I doubt I'll get a response.
However, I was really really surprised when I emailed Stanwell Pipes (also owned by STG) and got a response from them very quickly!!!

I would love to have that Mick McQuaid statue.
That would be great to put up at the end of a bar...
By the way, from what I've read it sounds like procuring UK tobaccos can be done, but it is definitely a huge hassle and the prices will be more than double what you are used to paying.
A trip to the UK in a couple years will probably be the only way I will try them!
