I did a quick Google search for this image I remember seeing a while ago. It is a briar pipe of some kind retreived from the wreck of the Titanic.

But then I also stumbled across this, which is apparently a cob from the Titanic as well.

It’s amazing that those pipes didn’t just crumble to pieces after being on the bottom for as long as they were. I would have expected the cob, at least, to fall apart from the pressure and being exposed to water.

The stories of the Titanic are still told here in NL, as it was off our shores in the iceberg-prone spring that the Titanic met its fate.

And every year the icebergs provide a demonstration of the majesty of the ocean and the danger it presents to those who dare to navigate it.

I think in the DiCaprio/Winslet version of Titanic he is so dutiful saving Winslet that she has the pleasure of watching him fade to blue. Maybe it was someone else that I remember turning blue, but as he is in the water and she is watching him, he is a likely candidate. In the back of her mind she may be thinking "What a beaner not to know to save himself, first." She may have been afraid that he would reverse his heroism, unseat her and chuck her in the water. We'll never know.

While DiCaprio is busy being the Bodhisattva of the iceberg's Atlantic, the captain thinks "Oh, shit," knowing the ship is going to hit the 'berg. Meanwhile DiCaprio, dying, is exalted by the bodhichitta from foregoing life and dropping self.

The captain despairs that cost cut the number of lifeboats to few. Beset by the onset of his tarnished reputation, he wanders from the public bridge and drowns in private.

I call BS on the cob!
I've dropped cobs in the ocean several times and they always float.

I've seen certified slivers of wood on sale. May get one and have an artisan make a pipe and use that wood as an accent. Morbid I know, but I've always been fascinated by the Titanic.

Mike, I can't see your pictures for some reason

Anyone else have this issue?

I want to say, Dunhill, sorry, White Spot, made some special edition pipes in 2012 with a piece of wood from a Titanic deck chair included as a tamper.

I don't know about you guys, but that movie choked me up big time. Still gets me every time. I blame it on the music combined with the scenes. Bastards, how dare they reveal my emotions rotf

Were I a passenger I don't think I'd have tried to muscle my way into a lifeboat despite that it was women and children first. No, I'd have stood and listened to the musicians in the chamber orchestra and tried to let the music carry me away from my thoughts of impending doom, which would be hard to do given the angle of the deck as the forward part of the ship broke from the remainder. If I survived that then the next big tilt as the remainder nosed down to the deep. Even if I had a life preserver, dead in minutes, then drifting unanchored in the sea until the vest separated from my body, at least free to sleep fathoms deep.

As I was saying, corncob pipes are permanent pipes, so buy them with acrylic stems.
