I have the opportunity to buy one of these old style Ronson pipe lighters with the wheel on the side for about 30 euro. I'm having trouble finding info online. What type of fuel do these use? Are the right flints still available to purchase? Has anyone had luck restoring these? I'm trying to work out if it's worth picking up.

(The picture is same model as the one I'm looking at however mine is in worse condition.)

Any info would be great.

I wish you luck on this. Every one of these vintage lighters that I buy have plastic butane tanks that have cracked. Most of the time it's a standard lighter Flint, watch for corrosion in the tube.

Thanks for the heads up. I can see some corrosion on the outside so I'm just going to skip it and get a new lighter instead.

The only lighters I buy used are Duponts. Even if they dont work the ligne 1 can be self serviced. The last one I picked up was 60 euros, looked like new. I changed the seals and put a pipe nozzle on it. Id probably buy a used old boy if I trusted the seller. For me lighters are a buy once and invest a bit or buy cheap and toss when broken.

If you want to buy cheap the ali express old boy/dunhill knockoffs actually work. I bought mine for 12 euros. It still works. Its my outside lighter. I cant quite remember the name Jefig or something like that. Several guys here carry them and have gotten a couple of years at least out of them.

Here is a link. At least in the EU you pay vat/tva directly to ali express so there is no import duty. I dont know the UK arrangement.

here is a link. These are suprisingly decent. Yes they have a plastic tank...yes, they only last as long as they last.
They range from 10 -18 euros depending on design
