Started smoking in the late 50's on Lucky Strikes then to Marlboro's and finally settled on Camels. In the early 70's added cigars and my first pipe a Butz-Choquin Camargue Billiard which I still have and smoke. Quit smoking totally in mid 1970 and about 5 years ago for whatever reason decided to go back but just to the pipe. I have been back and forth on styles / shapes and have narrowed down to 7 pipes that I have settled on and suit me at present. The Butz, a GBD Zulu, 3 Petersons a Rattray and an Old Dominion cob. I have tried various tobaccos and have a few favorites but for the life of me I cannot detect the various subtle flavorings or tastes that many pipe smokers mention and discuss. But I do enjoy a bowl when walking the fields next door or when hunting afield with my German Shorthair. I have watched this forum for a while and figured I should at least introduce myself.

My very best to everyone for a Happy and Healthy New Year.

Welcome, Bob from a young-ish guy in MI. It sounds like you’re off to a great start. It’s taken me quite some time to pick up just some of the flavors people talk about and I’m sure you’ll make progress as you stick to it. Show us a pic of you shorthair when you get a chance!
