I just picked up 6 estate pipes and a stand at my local antique store today and I have a question. Two of them are marked Old England Virgin Grain with the model being 27N. Three of them are marked Ehrlich, one says Straight Grain, no model, the other two simply say genuine imported briar, also no model. All five are straights, dublins and billiards. I'm pretty sure I've heard of Old England , but I don't know anything about them, and I've never heard of Ehrlich. All but one are in pretty good shape. Oh , the other one is a Graybow Belvedere. If anyone knows anything about these I'd sure appreciate it. I don't think I did too bad. Only paid 60 for all with a pretty nice little stand.

I've cleaned up two Ehrlich pipes to date and have been really pleased with the briar and the construction. Those pipes were built to smoke!

Thanks rothnh! I'm giving them a whiskey-n-salt treatment right now,and there is some polishing to do, so it'll be a few days before I get to try any of them out.

Wonderful score, Pete!
I'm a huge fan of the Old England line. They're a top second line of Sasieni and mine are excellent smokers. (In fact, I've been over them so many times and can't find a blemish anywhere.) I've read that some collectors feel Sasieni rivals Dunhill and might even be their superior. (IIRC, Joel Sasieni started his piping career with Barlings and then worked several years at Dunhill before branching out on his own.)
All of my Sasienis and seconds are well made pipes and have given me a tremendous amount of pleasure.
If you read this article http://murderofravens.org/my-sasieni-pipe-article/ you'll be the resident Sasieni expert at your local B&M.
I also feel the same way about my two Ehrlichs. They aren't the prettiest pipes I own but they're built hell for stout and are swell burners. I've got an Ehrlich Canadian that's heavy enough to use on baby seals but it's one of my favorite long pipes.
Finally, I believe your DG Belevedere was a coupon pipe but you might want to verify that with someone more knowledgeable like ejames. DGs are a specialty of his and he's the go-to guy for Dr. Grabow around here.
Again, that was sixty bucks well spent, Pete. You did great.

I'm half way into the fist bowl in the Ehrlich Straight Grain and it is proving its self to be a wonderful smoker! I've done some polishing on the bowl and stem and its cleaning up nice! I plan on getting a buffer so I can really make them shine. I left the cake alone in all but two of them as they had little to none. One of the Ehrlichs has quite a bit and will need substantial reaming. Also one of the Old England's has a pretty substantial burnout that I found while cleaning. I'm going to see if I can salvage it with a mud job. All in all it seems like its turning out to be a good buy.

Pete:
With 95 posts under your belt you've been here long enough to know the drill.
If there aren't any pictures then this never happened.
I've never seen an Old England Virgin Grain or an Ehrlich Straight Grain and I can't wait.
Get busy, please.

I'm workin on it! Lol! Like I've said before, I'm not very tech savy. It's a small wonder I ever figured out how to post at all! It took me the better part of a day just to figure out the whole a avatar thing, I'd never even heard of one till I joined the site! As soon as I figure it out I'm sure there will be more pics than you care to look at, LOL!
