While looking at Old Boy lighters, the 'matt' finish is the cheapest. Is that metal sides? I'm wondering if I need to make sure I get a briar or at least a leather covered. I have a Kiiribi old boy knock off that's metal sides, just carrying it a day or two with keys or whatever in my pocket left it dented up and not looking too good

Don't do that! Whatever finish you end up with, keys will crap up the looks.
Can you post a link to the specific lighter you're looking at?

Me I'd wrap an Old Boy in a $100 bill with a rubberband, seeing as how if I bought one I'm not averse to burning money :D I've got a brass Zippo that I've dropped on the pavement countless times. Between that and skin oil and tarnish it looks like it's been through a war. And frankly Idgaf because a)it didn't cost me $100, and b)it worked fine for 35 years and then needed just a new wick and packing, which Zippo did for free and sent me a new pipe insert to boot just cause I asked.

alex, great looking lighter, congrats on your new purchase. I bought a briar Old Boy back in 2000 and it is still running like a champ. I also have one of these Old Boys https://www.smokingpipes.com/accessories/lighters/moreinfo.cfm?product_id=2882. There was a member here looking to sell his used Old Boy at a great price so I just had to buy it. I recently took it to Italy and it performed like a champ the 3 plus weeks I was there.
I also own this

IM Corona Pipemaster which has an electronic ignition. I have had it for I think over 3 years and have had no issues with it. The Pipemaster also has a longer tamper than the Old Boy which can be handy. I have a lighter fetish and the IM Coronoa's are as good as any lighters I have ever owned.
