why do all of this seller's pipes look (to me at least) like the color of the staining/finish is always so faded?
Because Chance is as bad a photographer as he is a
good guy in every other way.
You'd think when selling items on the Internet where you're restricted to only words and pictures---and the word part means little (talk is cheap)---that no stone would remain unturned regarding photo quality. Especially when an entire family depends on those sales. (Fact: decent digital pics in 2017 do not require a lot of money or effort: The shop photos I post occasionally are taken hand held under a workbench desk lamp, and the staged shots in a $100 light box. The camera cost $300 five years ago, and the software was $18 ten years ago. As for effort, the "processing" of a photo, from plugging the camera into the computer through editing/cropping/etc, uploading to a host site and receiving a post-able link back, takes about two minutes. Less per pic if doing a batch of them.)
Chance called a while back to see if he could spend a shop day or two with me following the KC show in September. I think I'll probably end up showing him as much camera stuff as shop stuff. Definitely more bang for the buck, given the number of pipes he lists. (The quality of the restoration doesn't matter if you can't
SEE it.)
