Oddball Pipes

I thought It would be fun to see what kind of oddball or quirky pipes people have in their collections. Below are a couple of mine that I think are kinda fun for conversation if nothing else. My hope is others will follow and post about some of their interesting pipes.
First up a "Motorist"

This pipe as is all wood and has a detachable threaded top. There are 2 holes that go from the inside rim down to the bottom exterior of the pipe which in theory allows the smoker to light up then screw the top on and still smoke. Now you can "Motor" down the road, windows down without getting ash everywhere.

Below is a "Douglas Air Cooled" pipe

Upon Google search I found some advertisements for these from the 1930s that tells about the pipes "pin hole vent", and "cooling air chamber". The pipe is designed to have cool clean air mix with the smoke to cool the smoke and "impurities" are deposited in the chamber which is accessed for cleaning by removing the bottom cap.

All mine are fairly traditional, but I love the look of the Douglas Air Cooled. The only other pipe I have seen with the stem in line with the top of the bowl is the Jet Stream.

I really like odd pipes. My rule I've given myself is no more pipes until the cellar is bigger, unless the pipe really catches my eye or is really unique.
This is a Stanwell:

A Wally Frank Rhodesian. It's like a Rhodesian-Cavalier hybrid:

I possess about 30 of these, and can attest to the great smoking qualities of most of them.

romeowood- nice collection of the Jet Streams! I have one of the Jets that has the shank coming out of the bottom but didn't know they had the top shank Jets. The Weber Streamliner is a pipe I've been wanting for a while and I must say yours is the best one I've seen with the combo smooth and rustication.
Uberam3rica- how does the Cigar-Sparkless Zeppelin/Cigar pipe work? That is a design I've never seen.

Bartlett pipe. Fill from the top cap, light through a screen from underneath.

I purchased it through an ad in Popular Mechanics in the early 1980's.

Wow, some neat pipes guys! That motorist would be pretty cool to smoke in my MGB!
One of oddest pipes I've seen is this Beachtel. I just missed it on Ebay last year. The pipe was made in the 1920's and was unsmoked, with box and extra moisture discs. In the Ebay ad, I noticed it was manufactured in my hometown of Hagerstown MD. Earlier this year, I learned from reading an article in "The Pipe Collector" that Tony Pringle of "Smoking Metals" web fame. In communication with Tony, he told me he has a smoked version (pictured below) and when he took possession of the unsmoked piece he would offer me the pipe. I haven't heard from him yet, but remain hopeful.

Uberam3rica- how does the Cigar-Sparkless Zeppelin/Cigar pipe work? That is a design I've never seen

I call it a Zeppelin pipe, others a cigar pipe. They were designed to be smoked on Zeppelins, as they contain the ash and ember. Obviously a spark on a Zeppelin is a bad thing. The tip screws off to load it up(you have to pack a bit tighter), then you light it and screw it back on. You have to rotate it every so often like a cigar to keep an even burn. Then for cleaning it screws into two pieces. I have it dedicated to one blend, Vauen Zeppelin Pipe Tobacco. A good fit don't you think? I don't smoke it very often, but its not a bad smoker. Vauen still makes them, but they're $200. Morgan also makes a pipe called The Briar Cigar. They look like a cigar, and are much cheaper then a Vauen. I plan to get one as a birthday present to myself. Heres a link to some Briar Cigars
