Folks:
I have a very dear friend - a recently disbarred lawyer - who screwed the pooch and will soon be off to a Federal penitentiary for three to five years. I'll make no bones about the fact that he's a criminal and needs to serve his penance. But, he's still my friend and I never kick a dog when it's down. (His wife and kiddos are more than making up for his transgressions. House? Gone. Educations? Gone. Future? Gone.)
The million dollar question follows? Can you still smoke in a Federal bucket? He's a white collar criminal and will more than likely end up at the pen in Yankton, S.D.
Will I be able to send him a box of stogies or the odd tobacco pouch?
Thanks.

2004, the Federal Bureau of Prisons made all facilities under its control 100% smokefree. Correctional facility inmates, employees, and visitors must observe the policy. The American Jail Association, the American Correctional Association, and the National Commission on Correctional Health (NCCHC) have adopted smokefree resolutions that promote smokefree policies in jails and prisons – these are recommendations not mandates. For additional information on health services in the nation’s correctional facilities, visit the NCCHC website at http://www.ncchc.org/.

It would be a real drag to have to do time AND not be able to smoke... (Not saying criminals should be coddled, just saying that is yet another reason for me to stay the hell out of jail...)
