Is it apropriate to link to interesting auctions one has no involvment in? on eBay, for example?

I'm wondering partly because I don't know if the management appreciates it and partly because I don't want to spoil a sweet deal for anyone else by announcing it for everyone to see...

Eventually link to it once the auction is over, if the buyer isn't around here and showing it to us.
Any thoughts?

Color me suspicious... I'd sure email the guy to find out whether that humidor has the Dunhill name on it anywhere (and it should). That white circle on top means nothing without the Dunhill name somewhere.

Different strokes for different folks I guess...

I think it looks pretty sweet regardless of its authenticity. :)

Thank you for the sound advice though.

Yeah, the workmanship is not really good. Gotta wonder if he just put a white spot on the top and upped the price about $60. :D

He is a top rated seller, no reason to jump to conclusions without first asking the guy. It is moot as nobody wants to spend that kind of $$ on a humidor anyway. Sometimes Dunhill humidors have a label inside that can fall out, but I've also seen then with a permanent stamp somewhere on the cedar.

Yes Shaintiques, he is a top rated seller but look at his auctions. The seller is no "pipe guy" and that is HUGE when it comes to buying estate pipes and related accoutrements on eBay. Part of researching the seller's history should include looking at past auctions to give you an idea of the person's credibility regarding the item he or she is selling. I've seen many top rated sellers over the years who go to flea markets, pick up P&T stuff and then list them for sale with item descriptions that fall well below the Mason-Dixon line.
And by the way, Dunhill humidors (especially those in good condition), sell regularly for literally hundreds of dollars.

I'm not buying the thing, I thought I conveyed that in my second post, I just really liked it and wanted to show it.
Regardless, I'm grateful for the advice Pipestud and others have given. They know far more than me about these things and I'd be a fool not to heed their sound advice.

pipestud and others have offered their opinions. From the photo's I'd be hesitant. There is something stamped on the metal inner portion. I'd request a clear close up of the stamp. I'd also ask for a picture of the base. I did have a similar humidor here a while ago. NO stampings to suggest Dunhill anywhere on the interior. The only Dunhill stamp was on the base.
As I recall the white spot on the top was not raised ( meaning smooth on the top ) and the push button to open was also a white spot. I am not 100% sure, but sort of remember it selling in the $250.00 to $300.00 range.

The little Dunhill sticker is long gone but the white spot is what your looking for. I've seen them in catalogs

and IMO it's Dunhill!! I have one like it and seen many more in various styles, round top, flat top with side pipe racks and some have a white (ivory?) button. I've looked up the pat# on the lid and it's for the spring loaded seal. My worry is the pieces I've inspected the lacquer (?) finish always is crackled and this looks like it might have redone. I paid $150 for mine many years ago. 8O
