I have been watching this Wally Frank pipe cleaning device on ebay. Essentally it is a retort without the heat, now I don't 30 dollars like it at this point, but I would like to have one. Any ideas on how to cobble one of these together.
I do most of restoring early or late at work, but a candle and alcohol and the burning smell aren't prefered. I would appreciate any suggestions other than manually scrubbing the interior of a pipe because that is usually what I end up doing. Thanks.

I don't think pressurizing a stream of alcohol through the pipe would be much of a improvement over simple scrubbing.

The advantage of the heat of a retort is that it gets tars and oils loose quickly, IMO.

Cover outside of pipe with beeswax heavy layer. Fill bowl and shank with salt, drop saturate with alcohol, let sit several hours. Rinse. Now ream down to the briar completely. Then repeat salt, alcohol process over and over and over then rinse well with cold water and use oxyclean on a pipe cleaner and it's done. No use for fancy gadgets at all.
