No ashtray in new car

I just bought a new 2011 Dodge Charger. I don't smoke in my car but I was looking for the ash tray and couldn't find one. I asked the salesman that sold me the car where it was and he said it didn't have one. Anybody else that has bought a new car notice this on other cars?

The Honda Civic that I got new 6-7 years ago doesn't have an ashtray.... :crazy:

Its an added feature. I had to pay $180 to get an ashtray in my Honda Element.

Most new vehicles don't have an ashtray or the push-in cigarette lighter in the standard options package, you usually have to make a request (note that they call the lighters "Power Outlets" these days). To make matters even more fun, the aftermarket ashtrays most dealerships offer are really just heavy-duty ABS cups, with a $3 lighter, yet the smokers package is usually between $100 - $500, depending on the dealership/mfg.

In my '07 truck I had a 'ciger lighter' but no ash tray and 2 'power outlets'..same ting! My new truck has no such things, but does have a 110 outlet for a computer, hair dryer, electric shaver, hell, I might just get me a TV, they are not nearly as dangerous as a smoke while driving.

The last car I bought new, a few years ago, Ford Mustang, had what the

paper work said was a "smoking package". I think it was about $35 for a

plastic cup with a lid.
I'm sure you guys remember the older cars where there were ash trays all

over the place, in the doors, back seat, everywhere.
My wife had to rent a car the other day. Of course, they are all

"no smoking" cars now. I've been smoking like a chimney in this rental.

I guess I should spray some Lysol before returning it.

Ash trays went the way of the dinosaur years ago. Most auto parts stores sell ash trays that fit cup holders. I have 2 in my Chevy Equinox.

My 1977 MGB DOES have an ash tray but I need to get the cigar lighter to work. British electronics!!! The lighter will probably leak oil once I get it working.

my volvo don't have one and no lighter, but has a lighter socket for my lap top or tom tom.the anti tobacco group has hooked up with the auto companys.

Ashtrays in newer cars and trucks have been absent for quite awhile. No matter, the included ashtray of old was never very usuable anyway. Too narrow and rather small, and hard to locate at night. Kind of an afterthought. Too small to hold a pipe. Hard to clean, also.
I use a cigar cup in one cupholder, modified with a rubber pipe holder. A long tamper made from a 6 inch roofing nail rests inside. Remove it and dump it. Wash it once in a while. Move it to a rear cup holder if I have a passenger. Very versatile.

I installed my own in my chevy Equinox . Went ot the junk yard and found one . ripped off a plastic panel in front of the center shifter and cut to fit . Now I have a place for change . My full size Chevy trk has one as does the Suburban .The trailblazer does not . Remember ford did not put a cupholder in thier trucks until 2004 . lol

My '01 Dodge Dakota does. It's a neat little flip down thing...pretty useless for pipes, but still pretty neat. When it works...which it usually doesn't! It also has a dedicated cigarette lighter, in the flip down ashtray. Also have two power outlets, which won't work for the cigarette lighter attachment, and the cigarette lighter attachment won't work for power.

My 2010 ford ranger came with a lighter (wont work for pipes) and a cup type ashtray it also has a power outlet.

My Volvo C30 doesn't have one either...or a lighter.

I want a Mercedes CL600 AMG, but they go for $225,000. My neighbor, also named Kevin, has one, so I guess I am sinning by coveting thy neighbor's car. I wonder what they charge for the ashtray and lighter on that one?

Maybe someday. I'm working on it.

Lysol will tip them off. A friend just got nicked a $250 fine plus a $75 dollar cleaning bill for a cigarette in a rental car. They will not say it to your face but will charge your credit card and there is nothing you can do about it.

Aside from burning the car to the ground, it is insured.
