Did I just experience a nicotine rush? I was smoking escudo in a corn cob and suddenly became light-headed. It was a very strange sensation. I'm new to smoking pipes (and smoking in general) and just wanted to know what you all thought...

That was nic alright. Anyone that tells you won't feel any nicotine from smoke that isn't inhaled doesn't know what the hell they're talking about.

Yes, Def a nic hit. For me if I keep going past the light headed stage, it will end in an upset stomach. :(

Definitely, it's a high, I was smoking a Joya de Nicaragua antano 1970 consul cigar last night for the first time, I was literally plastered to my chair and couldn't get up for about 20 minutes after I finished it.

Oh yea! Dont ya love it? I dont notice it that much except when I sit and relax and meditate. It a great way for me relieve any anxiousness or just induce a serene satisfied feeling. I quit smoking cigarettes for 4 months this last time as a test. Long enough for any relaxation sensations to be not just from relief of the nicotine addiction. I found for my experience anyway that nicotine is good for me. Possibly since I am a bit on the hyper side mentally. Pipe smoking only since Jan 14 has halted any lung contamination as I dont inhale. Breathe out the nose for the best nic hit.

Yup, it's hard to imagine someone getting addicted to something that I can only describe as being anywhere from "unsettling" to "excruciatingly uncomfortable", but I guess it took months of drinking coffee multiple times a day before I got any kind of unusually positive reaction to it (that is, the smell was extremely appealing after having not had any for a while).

Note that I have the metabolism and body mass of a crocodile, most people will react to things a little quicker.

I don't like it...I stay mild with my tobaccos if possible.

If I think the tobacco taste and richness is worth the hit Ill limit my smoking of it to after meals

and have it in smaller quantities.

GLP union square is supposed to be mild and hits me every time...as hard as any Ive tried

but that tobacco taste is worth it for me.

I'm with you who try and limit their smoking so that the Nic hit is minimized. Of late, I've been gravitating toward milder blends for just this reason. If I try and get up from my chair, I like the furniture to remain in the same place.

Currently smoking University Flake for the first time and I'm definitely feeling a nic hit, but it's not putting me completely down in my chair. Not really a fan of strong nicotine blends, but I've been off the nails now for over 8 years and definitely can't tolerate it like I used to!

I find the Pease blends to be weird like that. Irish Flake, a supposedly strong tobacco, barely affects me, but then I can feel a medium nicotine hit every time I smoke Union Square. Go figure.

Perhaps how the body reacts to nicotine, how it feels and where the affected part of the body is, is idiosyncratic.

Hmm I was holding off on FVF...for Best brown for the very reason..that I thought it might be too

much of a kicker..but maybe its best to judge each on its own then.

I had some McB Old Dark after a meal the other night with moderate affect..not bad..not overwhelming.

i get the sweats in the shoulders & arms if its a mild attack then the heat goes into the legs also & a bit dizzy - then eat something sweet like a banana & its gone about 5 min.
dunhill deluxe roll nicotine hit me today but its a bit sweeter & less perique than escudo which is too much perique for me & even more n hit than the dunhill

erinmore hits me big time also

sipping dont help still hits - i pass them thru the nose for some extra flavor so that doesnt help also.
sugar during or after it hits - finish the bowl then eat a fruit or chocolate the hit dissipates in about 5 min. - any excuse for chocolate.

I love the nic kick and am somewhat of a fiend for it. I am smoking a full to the brim bowl of my beloved and always faithful Irish Flake with a strong (7.5%) locally brewed IPA (on my second one) on a completely empty stomach after teaching and training brazilian jiu jitsu for 3 hours and have a completely comfortable and manageable buzz. I'm also smoking it in my Castello Sea Rock Pi Paneled billiard, size G, to boot. I think nicotine affects everyone differently, but you definitely build a tolerance to it over time, depending on what you smoke.

Awwww man trailboss, if there is one thing on this earth i cannot tolerate tobacco-wise, it is dip. Every single time i have tried it, i have got nic-sick beyond belief. That stuff is the devil. I used to chew redman with no problems, but as soon as i popped a lip full, it was game over! I can handle heavy maduro and habano cigars as well as 1792 and Irish Flake everyday, but the dip is the death of me.

Hmm, I just did a bit of reading.

You're definitely supposed to feel "good" (one study suggests effects can last as long as a week) and I haven't read anything about being light-headed as a part of that. Some of us must be pretty resistant to dopamine already and just skip the "feel good" part and go straight to "my brain is oxygen starved".

I'm not sure if that means I'm normally completely elated or an absolute grouch incapable of feeling good.

No, what you felt when smoking Escudo from your cob was euphoria. Escudo epiphany. This has become my benchmark for pipe tobacco. From tin to tray it goes all the way.
