For those following I got my first bad case of tongue bite last Friday. It was on a wet straight Virginia on a new pipe on a windy day. It was bad.

I tried to pick it up the next day but no good, the next day no good. From good advice here I just took 3 days off. Cleared my palate. This morning I reset with some simple Match Edgeworth Ready Rub. Ahhh there it is. Simple, Smooth, Sweet, in my corncob. Relaxing with a cup of coffee. As many of you have advised just take it slow.

That said I do want to recognize that several of you have sampled me some blends that I have not got to yet. I was trying to get there but knowing these were nice blends (Deluxe Navy Roll, Luxury Bullseye, some Reserves, etc) I wanted to try them after I am a better piper.

So forgive me if I have not replied to you that I tried your samples. I realized I was pushing a little to fast especially with Virginias. So stepping back to my burleys and some Latakia for a bit longer.

These things happen, all part of the journey. Good on you for persevering through it, and not getting soured to the whole thing in the process. VAs are some of the trickiest out there to get right, and I'm not the only one who feels this way.

Slow and steady wins the race, as is the case with most things. ?

I'm glad the tongue has recovered. Match Edgeworth Ready Rubbed by Sutliff is one of my favorites. You shouldn't have to worry about tongue bite with it. Virginias will bite you if you don't take it slow and easy with them. You're doing great.

A pleasing English blend with a burley base and some Latakia is C&D Tuggle Hall. Some do very little Virginia because of the tongue bite, but if you slow down, you can try it again later. I find Virginias milder than burley, but I'm pretty patient and sip all the way.
