Black Frigate (Has a bit of a rum flavoring; "krumble kake" cut.)
And it be awesome.....
As a n00b, and in me capacity as Scurvy Dog, 4th class, the Frigate calls to me and no mistake.
Good grief! You're recommending Black Frigate to a newbie?!? Better let him know what he's in for. Shanghai surprise![/quote]
This here n00b is a convert (and crew).
Yeah, will have to go with the crew on Black Frigate and Belmont Station.
Can't argue with Cap'n re: the Frigate.....Haven't tried Belmont Station. An aromatic with Black Cavendish, bright Virginias, Dark Fired and Dark Burleys. Interesting. What's it like?
My recommendations are probably not worth much, having been a piper for all of 2 weeks. Haven't found anything I didn't enjoy..although the vitamin N in Elizabethan Mixture seems more challenging than Nightcap. So far, I've sampled and enjoyed:
Dunhill Elizabethan Mixture
Duhill Nightcap
Dunhill Deluxe Navy Rolls
Escudo Deluxe Navy Rolls
Mac Baren Old Dark Fired
Seattle Pipe Club Plum Pudding/Plum Pudding SR
Lane 1-Q
G.L. Pease Gaslight
G.L. Pease Quiet Nights
Orlik Golden Sliced
C & D Black Frigate
I'm not guzzling these by any means, I usually smoke one bowl every couple of days as I get used to the hobby, in a variety of Savinelli Briars (incl. 2 churchwardens), MM Cobbs and a block Meer.
I currently have on order, and will be sampling the following:
Seattle Pipe Club Mississippi River
Dunhill The Aperitif
Dunhill Early Morning Pipe
As a super n00b, I'm just learning. I can say that I'm beginning to detect the many differences between all of the blends, and things are becoming even more enjoyable. In terms of recommendations, for myself I began with non-aromatics, in hopes of learning the various tobaccos and flavors that go with them, and to perhaps prevent bad habits from causing my tongue to be chewed off. I've now had some Lane 1-Q, and given my good habits developed early (breath smoking helped), I survived and did enjoy the smoke.
YMMV
