I was in and out of D.C. and Bethesda on up the Metro line for years on business, and have mostly good memories of evenings scouting out events at the Kennedy Center and sometimes at the various museums. When I was there several times a year, the Metro was spiffy and new and running right on time. It was pleasant to ride and compensated for not having a car available. Even on limited per diem, the hotel rooms were civilized and pleasant and I liked various restaurants, notably The Red Sea, Ethiopian up around Georgetown, and a nice unpretentious Thai place in Bethesda town, among others. After years of passing it up, I finally caught the line short on a bleak chilly day and visited the top of the Washington Monument. I even stayed in a hotel in the foggybottom area once, and another time at the Mayflower near the National Zoo. J. Edgar Hoover used to breakfast at the Mayflower and his table is still pointed out. My all time favorite event, on vacation not business, was seeing Dizzy Gillespie at the jazz club The Blue Note way back in the Eighties. Okay there's my nostalgia tour of your city. Welcome aboard.
