Hey everyone, my name is Will (from Tennessee) and I have enjoyed smoking briar pipes for over 10 years. Recently I started a new job in the Middle East and just last week purchased my first meerschaum pipe. With a desire to research and learn all I can about meerschaum, I have joined this site. I look forward to reading and talking about pipes with you all.

Was given my first Meerschaum by a Forums member and I'm enjoying the clarity of flavors it delivers. What's the availability of tobacco brands and blends where you are? You'll have an interesting time getting this nicely defined flavor from your blends. Welcome aboard.

Well, thanks to these forums I have successfully learned how to fix a very loose stem on my first pipe (Comoy's 1057). Thanks to all that share their knowledge here!

Howdy & welocome from the SC upstate! That's a nice looker of a Rhodesian you've got there! You'll probably get to like Comoy's; they've always been a fave of mine! If you want the really good ones, look on ebay or other places that stock estate pipes for ones from the early '80s or before. That was when Cadogan Investments took them over. Somewhat after that the "3-piece C" or "inlaid C" (pretty labor-intensive) gave way first to a 1-piece inlay, & then to a laser marking. You can see the relative differences here. comoy 3-piece inlaid C
After the takeover quality went down a bit due to cost-savings measures. It was about that time that Cadogan also acquired GBD, another primo maker from back in the day. They use to have the logo in a brass roundel on the stem, but Cadogan went to stamping the logo into the shank -- same $ deal. If you see pipes advertised as "pre-Cadogan" or with the early 8os or before, those are the ones you really want, back when they were really really good. :)

Thanks for the info, Bill! I picked up that Comoy's at a Tinder Box back when there was still one in Sacramento, probably around 2006. You're right about finding some good pipes on Ebay. This GDB poker is my best smoker. Just about any tobacco I have tried in it has a good flavor and a better flavor than any of my other pipes (aside from the new Meerchaum pipe). It was an estate pipe and is usually my go-to.
