The new year has rolled into our lives. While I sat and pondered here in Iraq smoking my radice horn with some 3nuns. I thought to myself what would be a realistic resolution? I have decided to only light my pipes with matches! Simple and traditional. Not to mention sustainable and realistic goal. What’s yours?

Good stuff. I try to make the first light with a match, and subsequent ones with refillable butane lighters. I suspect the sulphur compound in match heads is on par with the non-sustainability of butane....

Smoke up the blends in jars running low and clear the decks to pop open some of these long-held tins, and shuffle through the tins to see what all I have. Most of the near-empty jars are logically blends I like, so this isn't a task.

I plan to take more detailed notes about new blends I try as well as compare them to other blends I've sampled.

I've tried apps like Pipe Tool and even a basic excel spreadsheet, but I found Evernote works the best for me.

My goal is to spend zero, NET, on tobacco and pipes. If I buy something, which I know I'll do, sell something like pipes or tobacco I don't need or like.

Never been one for new year resolutions myself. But, heck, I do intend to continue my 'journey', trying to get rid of tongue burns, try different tobaccos, and continue 'cellaring' (if you can call adding a tin or two per month 'cellaring'). Even before the new year kicked in I 'resolved' to toughen my mouth up, and have been drinking my coffee and tea hotter than I used to.
Not a 'pipe resolution' per se, but toby-wise, I want to get into cigars this year, God willing. More expensive than pipes by the looks of it.

I resolve to continue to build up my tobacco cellar. Fill it with as much good baccy as I can afford.

I think I am done. I have over 200 pounds of tobacco in my closet, and more pipes than I will ever need. Not so much a resolution as I find them pointless, just I no longer feel compelled to add to my collection.
