Hello all, I’ve been lurking this site for awhile trying to learn a few things but now I’ve joined. I’ve smoked cigars for years but have just decided to try pipes. I’ve tried cheap to high dollar cigars and I guess I’m just a low grade Redneck because I like the cheap sweet cigars LOL (I’m the same with wine). I purchased my first pipe a few weeks ago and so far I love it (Morgan Bones). Pipe smoking seems much smoother and less harsh than cigars. I’m a hands on do it yourself kind of guy so I really want to try my hand at cleaning up estate pipes. I made a purchase on EBay for my first attempts. I bought 3 Comoy’s Christmas edition pipes for $60 (1990, 1995 and 1997). I will receive them in a few days. The wood looks to be in fine shape other than the need for cake removal but the stems on two of them are pretty faded. From what I’ve read the newer Comoy’s like these aren’t great pipes but the wood grain on these looked so pretty I just couldn’t pass them up. I guess I’m just wondering your opinions on these Comoy’s 09C0639F-2FAE-468A-A8E9-6BC126CAE061.jpeg0A7A62EF-16A9-4708-9FED-20B1C396AB61.jpegC1E08508-2643-435C-935D-60CBAF378529.jpegpipes.

Is that bottom picture of a Full bent billiard or an Oom Paul?

Welcome to the community.
Very glad to hear you are enjoying your pipe.

The Comoys that are "collectable" are the pre-Cadogan ones with the "3-part C logo"

Pipedia is a good source of information
There are lots of threads ("Pipes: Show Us Your....." section) on these Forums.
They will point you to the brands/eras to look for if you are interested in older/estate pipes.

I kinda thought these were to young to be considered collectible but $60 for 3 pipes seemed like a pretty good price. The wood grain on them is so nice. I’m assuming Comoy’s use a nicer selection of briarwood for their Christmas pipes. As long as I can clean them up and they smoke good I’ll be happy.

I have a few Comoy "rejects" - their "Specially Selected" which I got for a song.
These would have been graded as "Specimen Grain" (their top grade, above "Blue Riband") except for some small flaw(s)
They smoke every bit as well.
I'm more than happy with them, especially at the price I got them for.

I also have quite a few "seconds" -eg Stanwells and Barling (BBS) which are good smokers.
Often can be found at a very good price on EBay.

I think old Comoy's pipes are well liked. Not sure how they smoke since I smoke Peterson only.
I love Peterson pipes but can't afford them. I would love to have an older "pre republic" Peterson just because I respect the history. Also, I'm from Irish decent so it kinda has a special meaning to me. Anyone want to sell me one cheap LOL???
