Hey guys,

So im pretty new to pipe smoking, and just recently bought my first pipe. I am a college student, but spent as much as i could (about $60) on a pipe that smokes a lot better than anything my friends have (drugstore pipes). The pipe is stamped with fe.ro and i was wondering if anyone really knows anything about those pipes. I havent really found much online about them and was curious if anybody had ever heard of fe.ro. I am excited to keep experimenting with new tobaccos and maybe even new pipes someday down the road. If anyone has any advice or suggestions for a beginner like me, i would love to listen and learn.

Many people adore drugstore pipes, I don't but many do. In my opinion $60 is a bit much to spend on a first pipe but I hope you enjoy it and don't let frustration with lighting and keeping it lit and all that turn you off of pipe smoking.

Welcome to the forum! According to the information you have provided, that pipe appears to be made by Frederico Rovera, which is a pipe that is made from Italian briar. Italian made pipes are, on the whole, extremely well made, so I believe that you will get many years of enjoyment out of your pipe as long as you care for it properly. As far as advice? Look through the forums. Do a search for the things that you are interested in knowing, such as tobaccos, cleaning, waxing a pipe, or how to restore an estate. Its a great place to be and a welcoming environment. If you have a specific concern, Private Message me, and I will help you as best as I can. Welcome to our little corner of the world!

Wecome New pipe smoker , I have been smoking off and on since the 70s more on than off , as some of my fellow pipers say

take your time and have fun with it, a great pipe & good tobacco is like a fine woman you want to spend a long & slow time

with it before you have to put it down !! enjoy !!

Welcome to the forum, Brandon.

Please share your experiences as a new smoker.
You may want to consider getting a corn cob pipe as a second for a knock around pipe and to give your 'Italian job' a rest.

Good advice. Pipes like to have time to dry out. If your pipe starts tasting bad, you'll want to clean it and let it rest a day or two. You can likely pick up a cob at the local drug store for $5.00 or so.
spend a long & slow time with it

More good advice. The best thing you will learn about smoking is "Don't hurry". The slower you smoke, the better it will taste and the easier it will be on your tongue.

Welcome to the forum, Brandon - and I can only second the advice about getting a second pipe - a cob can be great - to let your briar rest, and taking your time with it.
Personally, I think you did the right thing by buying the nicest pipe you could afford. I would never advice anyone to start with a drugstore pipe, if they asked my opinion. If you can only afford to drop $20, then get a good cob. :puffy:

Welcome aboard. Dont pack your pipe too tight! I think thats the best advice I have ever given anyone. Hope you stick around, read some of the threads, and dont be afraid to ask. Be prepared though, there are as many answers to a question as there are pipe smokers!

Welcome to the forum! I also think you did well in investing a little more in your first pipe. As others have said, get something like a Corn Cob so you can rest your main pipe on alternate days. Look out for any sample packs of tobacco you can find so you can try all those wonderful blends out there!
