New to me estate pipes. Not sure of their age. One appears to be a Peterson and the other is a Savinelli 114ks with a visibly dirty stem. Any info you can provide would be appreciated. Got them and a few more from my buddy. They belonged to his grandfather. FYI, I’m a newbie so forgive my ignorance. 164422C1-E2A8-4352-B28A-B9033B23D024.jpeg3E5BAF20-254D-467E-8B7D-2019B4158C41.jpegB33A9A73-BBD2-4E82-9AE1-1E0D2B693FB4.jpeg

The Pete is an African Meerschaum, probably made on the Isle of Mann by Manx for Peterson. The stem on the Sav will clean out with a bit of alcohol and a few pipe cleaners. Both need to be reamed and cleaned. Be careful reaming the meer but you’re gonna want to ream it completely back to meerschaum and probably not let it build cake like that again. Both are very nice pipes, congrats.

Those pipes were well loved. Probably great smokers. I’d send them to a professional if your not comfortable with restoring them. Few dollars later and theyll have another life to live. And many more wonderful smokes

I would not use alcohol to clean the acrylic stem. Alcohol can damage acrylic. Warm water and an unscented dish soap will do the trick. Also, pick up a pack of White Elephant brand bristle pipe cleaners to use for cleaning. They're not as wiry as the BJ Longs, so they won't scratch up the Acrylic.
Hey thanks for the bristle cleaner tip. I bought some off brand bristle cleaners from Amazon and those things have little knives as bristles I swear.

I have a similar Savinelli pipe - also deluxe Milano with transparent stem, but 124KS shape - and found it to be really rare when I researched it. It is afaik the only series where Savinelli produces a transparent stem (this is more of a French habit, Chacom and BC have a lot in that department).

To encourage you, my stem looked the same, and see it now:IMG_1010.jpeg
