If I may addsome advice from a newb, for a newb...
If you're smoking hot then getting a thicker pipe is probably not the answer. I smoked pretty hot when I started but was able to correct the problem pretty easily by paying attention to how the bowl "felt" in my hand when I was smoking. I can pretty easily tell by how warm my pipe is whether I need to puff some more or let it cool a bit. Just think of you're thin pipe as "training wheels" to getting the most from your smoke.
