Not much of an update but a quick report. Received a few tins from SP's latest restock. Full Virginia Flake's lid slipped right off with minimal effort without prying the lid or tools after peeling off the plastic wrap. Tobacco was in perfect shape. Definitely will be jarring SG tins upon receipt.

A few weeks ago, I popped a tin of GH Rodeo, and it was sealed really well. It’s probably smart to test tins before storage by trying to open it with bare hands. If it can pop with just your hands, it wasn’t sealed. But, if not, toss it in the cellar and let it ride. A proper seal on a tin requires a coin to pop it. This goes back to the old literature on pipes.

Seems GH is about inconsistency… for better or worse. If you want a GH product, just be aware.

Honestly, even if I may resell one of my GH blends at some point down the road, the tin is opened and contents are transferred directly into mylar as soon as it arrives. No sense putting what may be misplaced trust into one of these inconsistently sealed modern rectangle tins.

I purchase all of my tobacco with the intention of smoking it, not with a view to resell. And when buying vintage tobacco, I place a higher value on mylar sealed tobacco anyway, as it has less of a chance of being mummy dust.

I always like the SG tins from way back, easy to stick in your pocket ,etc. Recently I opened a 10 or old tin SG St. James Flake, and while not dry or molded, it didn't taste right, maybe a bad tin? Storing in a jar or mylar, maybe. I'll take my chances with the new tins.
