I stumbled across this 3 page PDF with product announcements from Mac Baren. Does anyone know anything about this? See especially page 3, a new Presbyterian flake and a Sutliff crumble cake no. 4.

I also note smokingpipes has a placeholder page already set up for the new Presbyterian:

The pdf says Presbyterian launches today. Has anyone seen it? Is Jim smoking it right now to make his review?

Cool beans. One way to work through the apparent FDA ban on new pipe tobacco products is to take existing recipes and process them differently, such as pressing, roping or plugging them. The FDA restrictions are formulas and compositions. Of course, who knows how much stretch there is in "substantial equivalency"?

I imagine substantial equivalency means species of tobacco (burly and Va are the same in their eyes probably) and more to do with stuff you spray on it.

Ok
Upon closer scrutiny this doesn’t sound a lot like my beloved Presbyterian?

“Danish flavorings are added to cake-cut Burley, Virginia, and Turkish tobaccos. The tobaccos are pressed to elevate the naturallv rich cocoa notes from the tobaccos which evokes a mocha bouquet that is sure to please.”

The reference to “natural cocoa notes” and burley bothers me a bit- I hope this isn’t a burley flake in a Presbyterian tin.

It definitely reads like something new. Sweetened in Mac Baren fashion, different constituent tobacco, etc. If one likes both sweet Mac Baren blends and Presbyterian, will this Reese’s experiment be good? I am curious.

Saw that. A plug or a flake would work. Crumble cakes still mystify me - they're a bigger pain in the ass than they're worth, even though they require less work than a plug or true flake. Doesn't have to make cogent sense - I likes what I likes ?‍♂️
It kind of depends, for me. There's a blend I love that comes in a crumble cake and consists of very thin leaves that dry really fast compared to a thicker ribbon. The cake allows it to not all dry out at once and keep it's freshness except for what I break off to smoke. In that particular instance, the cake works to help keep it from going stale quicker than I'd want.

For those who may be interested in the Presbyterian Flake I emailed SP to ask when it will be available and I received the following response

“Hi Mark,
Thanks for reaching out. At this moment, we do not have any set date for its release. When we do have one, I am sure we will announce it on our Instagram. Other than that, you are more than welcome to check in with us from time to time if we have not revealed any date yet.”
