Hello all, I'm a newer pipe smoker, and I just recently bought a pipe from Ebay that I fell for. Unfortunately I don't know much about the pipe.

I was hoping somone could enlighten me on the maker of the pipe and maybe even a year of make.

I also have some sort of texturing on the pipe stem that originally I thought was maybe some old spit, so I took an alcohol wipe to it and it doesn't seem to be taking the texture out but making it worse.
If someone has a tip to share, I'd greatly appreciate it.

The pipe has printed on the bottom "Canberra London made".

Thank you all.

I’m new here so I’m not sure if it’s allowed to paste a link into a reply, but the reborn pipes website has a lengthy post on refurbishing a Canberra London Made pipe with links to background and historical details on the brand. That would be a good place to start your research. They did make some interesting shapes!

Looks like a bit of a find, hope it cleans up and smokes nice. I'd be well happy.

I wonder if that stem is original? Looks like a bulldog variation with a Danish military stem that got lucky in fitting the mortise? Another shouldn't be too hard to find. Repair of a bit at the button seems chancy.

I did end up being able to clean up the stem to where it didn't have much of a smell anymore, though I believe I may have taken off more varnish than I originally wanted.
I have been doing alot of looking around and trying to find a suitable replacement for the stem.
I noticed that there is no markings on the stem itself making me think that it is not an original stem.

I appreciate all the input sofar. Does anyone recommend a stem they enjoy using?
