Hey everyone!
After joining this forum and getting some fantastic introductions in the New Members section, I’ve received tons of great suggestions for tobaccos to try. When I first started, all I had was a tin of Peterson’s Nightcap and a Meerschaum cob. As an avid cigar smoker, I came in wondering what to look for to achieve that classic pipe room note.
Many of you gave me valuable feedback, especially pointing out that as a cigar smoker, I might not enjoy “flavored” tobaccos—some even compared them to Acids (which made me chuckle). I appreciated the honesty and took all your recommendations seriously. That was just about a week ago, and since then, I’ve felt so welcomed into this community. Thank you all for making the transition to pipe smoking such a warm and enjoyable experience!
Today, I took the plunge and picked up a cheap oak pipe with a larger bowl along with one of the suggested blends: Captain Black Original. I gave it a try earlier, and wow—what an amazing smoke! It was incredibly smooth, and the room note was fantastic. Even the UPS lady delivering a package to my house commented on the cozy aroma as I sat under my propane heater in the garage (it’s freezing here in Michigan).
I’m really excited to keep exploring this hobby. I still love Nightcap for its smoky, calming effect—it’s perfect for unwinding at the end of the day, and I plan to keep it in my rotation. I also grabbed a butter rum blend that was recommended by the guy at my local tobacconist. He said a customer suggested it to him, and he’s been spreading the word. I can’t wait to give it a go tonight.
This has been such a fun journey so far, and I’m looking forward to trying more blends, learning from everyone here, and figuring out how to get the most out of this experience.
Quick question: What does everyone think of rubber bite protectors? I picked up a couple, and I’m loving how comfortable they make it to keep the pipe in my mouth. Do you use them, and are there any pros or cons I should be aware of?
Thanks again for all the advice, and I’m excited to keep the conversation going!
Cheers,
Aaron
