Hello all,
I just recently received this estate pipe as a gift. It's in fairly good condition, but could use some work, a project I might undertake in the near future. However, I've never seen markings like this on a pipe, and have no idea who made it. I've checked the pipe logo sites and tried to dig up as much information as possible, but have found nothing definitive. Has anyone seen a logo like this before?
Thank you all very much in advance

Sorry about the picture size/quality, guys. I figured the larger picture on Imageshack would be big enough. Tomorrow I'll take pictures of the the entire pipe from several angles. I selected that portion of the pipe because those marks (the "E" and the 186) are the *only* identifying symbols on the entire pipe. No stem stamp, no date, no indication of manufacture location.
Tomorrow evening I'll get a few more images up.
Thanks all.
Edit: In the interim, I'll go ahead and re-post the larger picture here, as opposed to linking out with the above thumbnail:

186 and an E
Makes me think it's a factory "2nd" or was a crafter who was practicing his stamping.
But like I said above I really don't know.

The 186 may be a shape number, but without knowing which maker, it is useless. Now, comparing the entire pipe to the 186 shape of Stanwell or another manufacturer might bring it to light. I have a skater shape pipe that is a Charatan second, but it is not stamped either. The shape was peculiar to Charatan though. Either way, if it cleans up well and puffs good, dont much matter who made it.

It's a Comoy-Made Large Billiard shape #186 with 'MADE IN LONDON" in a circle, over "ENGLAND", but that stamping is very faint (to the left in photo), but it's there. It very well could have been conceived as this pipe: COMOY BLUE RIBAND 186E

But some defect pushed it off the line.

BTW, I have no idea why 'brebbia is mentioned in the link - it has nothing to do with brebbia.

Thank you all very much for your replies and help. Modernchicago, you were dead on the money. That is nearly the exact shape of my pipe. And you were correct on the defects: it has the strangest grain I've ever seen, a sandblast so light that it could easily be mistaken for a smooth finish if looked at from a certain angle, almost as though the artist wasn't sure what to do with it. Also, there are several imperfections, pits and whatnot, along the shank that might worry the smoker about "leaky pipe." It smokes fine, however.
And yes, Mike, in my short time of pipe smoking I've grown fascinated with every aspect of the pipe, from internal workings to exterior aesthetic. Each pipe is a work of art, and the thought process that goes into each and every item sends my imagination into overdrive.
Once more, thanks all, and happy smoking

- Tom (Cajunguy)
