I am nt sure what I've done to deserve such an awesome girlfriend I will say once again!! This morning I was woken up to her saying, " hey... Look what I got you!"
I have wanted to try these out for a while now but when I took it out and started to look at it I see the shank is clear into the bowl so you will actually pack a portion of tobacco into the portion of the shank that is visible from the bowl. I hope that made sence.... I feel like it will act as a straw almost!!
So my question is, is packing a cob exactly the same as packing a briar? I prefer the three pinch method with briars

I do well with the three pinch method in my cob, and the shank in the bowl will eventually burn away.

I like these cobs because of the moisture well at the bottom... I never seem to get all the way to the bottom of a pipe and do not burn out that portion of the stem, in the chamber. Works well for me. Also, when smoking from my MM, I notice that the tobacco packs in around the "Straw" and forms a fairly solid bottom. I hate to say this, but my MM Corn Cob pipes are my best smokers. They are consistent and always draw well.
Happy Smoking!

Hey Redbeard - that's a great wake up! What a wonderful gal you have there. I love my cobs, always have! Never had to change anything in my regular manner of packing for one, never thought about it but a good question. For me, a cob is a good solid smoking machine and I hope you enjoy it!

I'm still a newbie, but I have to say that my MM Cobs are my favorite pipes for the same reasons the others have mentioned. Always consistent, dry, very nice draw and I almost never have to relight if I perform the char light. Everything I smoke in them tastes wonderful. I use the three step method for packing as well. I actually tend to pack fairly tight, as I like to have a good bit of resistance on the draw.
Enjoy your new pipe, your girlfriend deserves a great big hug!
