Original title: New member and advice on pipe I got from my father - an Omega Crown Algerian Briar

Hi all, new to posting here but joined some time ago. I have wanted to get into pipe smoking so I dug out my dad's Omega Crown Algerian Briar. I was thinking of just buying a rubber pipe bit so it will smoke fine for now, is this worth pursing sending off somewhere?
I'm a long time tobacco user and am big into nasal snuff, and I liked some of the blends that some said reminded them of good pipe tobacco (which was originally what the snuff in question was - Sir Walter Scott's - Sir Johnny ground up some pipe tobacco to use as snuff, initially) so I was wanting to dive in. Cheers everyone

Omega's were made by HLT Royalton and then Sparta Industries (Dr Grabow). The pipe doesn't have much intrinsic value, but I'm sure it has a lot of sentimental value to you. Only you can decide if the pipe has enough sentimental value to justify a stem replacement. I would think somewhere in $40-50 range would get the stem replaced.

This ^^^

It could be a project to do yourself, lots of tutorials out there, but me personally i'd just send it to Rich at Briarville and have him do it so you know when you get it back it will look like brand new and last you your lifetime as well.

Also really nice grain!

So if you are just looking to smoke, it should smoke fine right now, that hole is after where you put it in your mouth, so the leak doesnt matter…. But secondly, yes I would just get a bit if that is easy to find, done for now. Thirdly, you could look into a replacement or repair yourself later on. Just fire it up!

Thanks. Yeah I've smoked it and it is fine, I used some electrical tape in the mean time before I order rubber bits. I don't really have any true pipe tobacco just cigarette "pipe" tobacco for MYO, but a kind fella in the snuff community is sending me a Meerschaum Corncob Pipe and some tobacco to try out, so excited to get into it! I'm a really big snuff user so I have an idea of what I would want tobacco wise, but I like being part of the tobacco communities when taking up a hobby like this.

Welcome.

I don’t use snuff much anymore because it really stuffs me up and I need to breathe so I can enjoy my pipes but from time to time I still sprinkle it over a freshly packed bowl. It can add an extra dimension of flavor and add more nicotine to my smoke, give it a whirl sometime.

I like the pipe. If you like it too getting it fixed is a great idea. If you like snuff the pipe tobacco i found that makes the best snuff is Semois. Oh god it's strong enough and has enough scent that literally grinding it to powder makes an amazing snuff.

That is why I only snuff florals and unscented snuffs. The others block me up. Florals and unscented do not do that to me.
