I have been lingering for the past few hours so I figured I'd sign up. I'm more or less a newbie to the whole pipe scene. I dabbled in pipe smoking briefly when I was 16-17... nothing major, and the habit faded. I recently picked it back up again this past summer. I headed up to J.M. Boswell's and picked this up:

Unfortunately, on my wedding day, (8/27/12), I went down stairs to find that my Siberian Husky:

....had gotten into my bag and put a few nice chew marks on my new pipe! needless to say, i wanted to kill him. But, I got over it. It adds character and memories of my wedding day. :(
So far I have only been puffing on Boswell blends. My favorites being PA Dutch Treat and Northwoods.
I was just up at the shop the other week and wished I had the $75 for this guy:

Edit - Crap, sorry about the massive pics. anyway to resize?

Welcome! You found the right place...lots of great info. It's fortunate you found this resource early on...I floundered on my own for a few years before stumbling on this forum...it would have saved me a number of mistakes had I been on here from the start.
Great looking Husky btw...it would be hard to be mad at him for long, even after damaging a pipe. :)

Believe it or not, I was more mad about the pipe, than this: haha

OUCH! Looks like that dog is really a handful...if I'm not mistaken, Siberians can be pretty tightly wound. How exactly did he inflict that damage?

lol, well....it was more so my fault. I should have known better. Out on our nightly walk, I liked to jog a little, and then so some full out sprints. He always pulled out in front of me, running like the wind. That particular night in a full sprint, he slowed quickly and pulled left. Him slowing caused me to trip....and then he kinda pulled my right hand to the left so as i was going down i landed full force into the sidewalk with my right shoulder, compacting and shattering my collarbone. friggin hurt. lol. Off leash, husky will just take off, sniffing and peeing on things....so i had to keep his leash in my hand. I ended up just standing on it hunched over in agony and my wife came to get me. not a fun experience.

@wesleypipes: Oh I see...thanks for the explanation. That must have been a rather painful experience for sure. At first I thought he had put a deep scratch on you there or something...but that didn't explain the collar bone.
You might try roller blades or a skate board...then it wouldn't be as difficult to keep up with him...lol. We had a huge Malamute/Wolf when I was a kid, and I used to have her pull me on my skateboard...at times she'd get going to fast to keep control.

BTW...you're going to be popular here with so many pics right off the bat...you'll find most members on here crave pics for some reason. I'm kind of technologically challenged in that regard...haven't learned much on how to do pics and don't even own a camera.

@brian64: pics are pretty simple. just upload to a hosting site like photobucket.com, copy the pic location, paste into the forum and add the IMG tags. you should be able to pick up a descent digital camera for rather cheap these days. :)

@wesleypipes: Thanks. I do need to get around to that at some point. I have noticed that digital cameras are much cheaper now. I don't even have one on my cell phone.
