We wandered into a new flea market today. Among some decent finds were these 3 pipes. From top to bottom:
-a pipe that has the mark worn away from the bottom. The silver band has Sterling Silver in an arc and the mouth has a white dot... Can anyone tell from that info who the maker might be?
-A Petersen System Premier 307 with a Sterling band. 1973 mark in the silver
-A Petersen "Shannon" so I assume a Shannon Airport shop pipe from the mid 70's. Not marked sterling but it looks just as good at the other two sterling bands.
Cheers

Shannon is one of Peterson's standard lines, and doesn't necessarily denote the Shannon Airport, i don't think. The current Shannon line tends to be not banded and a fairly dark brown/tan stain with black highlighting the grain. Shannon prices tend to be lower in the Peterson pricing, around $97 to $ 110, or thereabouts. I've owned a Shannon bent brandy B11 sitter for about four years and it has broken in well and smokes nicely. I bought my Shannon for somewhat less than today's prices.
Footnote: For a number of years, most flights to Ireland seemed to be routed through the Shannon airport rather than extended directly to Dublin. One story was that it was an effort by Ireland to direct more tourist dollars to the western coast and region of Ireland. I think today the air traffic is directed at least equally to Dublin.

Well the white dot makes one think of Dunhill. A picture of the worn away markings would be helpful to get a better idea of what you have there.

Thanks for that suggestion. I think you can pick Dunhill out of what's there along with maybe 110 and Shell Briar. One thing though.... Wouldn't that have been made in England? It says Sterling but I don't see any little square hallmarks.
'preciate it!

Ok... I based my assumption on Shannon being in quotes and the Petersen site I read used "Shannon" (in quotes) when it talked about the Airport pipes. I'm hear to learn so I appreciate what I can gain here.

One guess: the Dunhill has a major repair of the shank, silver band not original. Might some material have been taken off the shank, and a longer stem used?

Hmmmm... Interesting thought. Not sure how to tell. That band is married to the pipe and I'm not keen on trying to force it off.

Then again... My wife mentioned yesterday that maybe there were more letters under the band (like maybe England)

It's a Dunhill. The band is DEFINITELY a repair. Rough dating, sometime after 1955. The 110 shape a group 1 size pipe, shape chart can be seen here, the 110 four up on the left,
