I've decided I want to get a churchwarden for my next pipe. Here's my problem: I know nothing about them, really. I found a Savinelli for a good price (@$68.00 not including the shipping on it). However, I imagine that Churchwardens are like all pipes where you generally pay for what you get. Does anyone have a good recommendation for a decent Churchwarden? Is there a price range I should aim for? Any help would be great!

I only have one, which I only smoke occasionally. It is a Stanwell HCA. It's a nice pipe, and it comes with a long and a short stem. Frankly, I put away the long stem and only use the short one after my wife told me I looked goofy.

Quincy here is a suggestion if you don't have a cob yet get one of those instead trust me i got mine last week and i have barely touched my briars, another reason i say this is because Walker Briar Works sells CW stems for cobs this way you get best of both worlds not to mention it will cost you under 40$
Just watch for the bowl getting to hot its hard to tell with a long stem because the smoke is so cool.

Yeah. I really am not a fan of the corn cob. I know people swear by em but I highly prefer the briar

I also prefer briar but the cob is good for those I just wanna smoke right now situations I could care less about what happens to it while I smoke but in saying that its also a very forgiving pipe.
I thought it was nonsense as well until I grab one for 8$ with a tad order for the heck of it. Turns out there alright.

One bit of advice, from personal experience - check the vendor's details carefully. I picked up a nice little Bjarne Viking Classic churchwarden, but it was smaller and shorter than I expected - which was entirely my own fault for not checking the size on the vendor's website.

Good call phred. I ordered a pipe from these guys before and their customer service knocked my socks off. Fast, super friendly, and they followed up to make sure the pipe came and was what I expected AND if I liked it. Their prices were below everyone too! Guess I will order the savinelli warden soon.

I have a Capri Headmaster and love it. Also have a MacQueen Ranger, and although it is great, the wood stem isn't so easy to clench (which I prefer to do) so it gets used less. My buddy has a Peterson (not sure the model) but he has been very happy with it, and another friend of mine has one of Sav's and that one is great too. I think you should be pleased spending $60-100 ad long as you like the way it looks!

I have 4 CW's a Peterson, SMS mer, an Uncle Arther, and a Vauen with 2 stems long & short. All of the CW's are for sitting and enjoying a good smoke while watching a movie.

I am not a fan of the churchwarden. They are so long an ungainly that smoking them is a chore to me. You have to buy specific pipe cleaners which are not cheap. If you are definitely set on one, I recommend buying a high quality one that has the option of a shorter stem that goes with it. This way if you do not like the length, you will still be able to enjoy the pipe.

I like churchwardens. Most of mine are light weight and the length is no problem. I usually smoke them by leaning back in my chair and resting the bowl on my chest...works for me! They are a sitting-down sort of pipe. Something shorter is necessary if you plan to walk around while smoking. I like the Stanwell Hans Christian Andersons that come with a short and a long churchwarden stem (2 stems).
