Great article and so many of Mr. Pease's points hit home. I, for one, never thought of any particular pipe shape being designed for a specific cut or blend. I just go with what strikes me at the moment. Vindication? Maybe and maybe not but I'll fell less contrained by conventional lore.

This inspired me to go outside the box. I took the stem out of my favorite pipe, punched a hole in a tin of Frog Morton on the Bong and inserted it. I then fired up a blow torch, put the blue flame to work on that tin with the lid still on (cause I’m a rebel), and started puffing away. Other than smoking little hot and feeling a bit woozy while the angry firemen where cussing me out, I highly recommend it.
All kidding aside, that’s a great piece Pease. It makes me want a wide bowl pipe to try some flakes in.

I'm really at sea over the issue of using larger diameter pipes to smoke flakes. For me Va flakes are best if smoked as slowly as possible, and that seems to exclude big diameter chambers which are nearly impossible to keep lit over their entire surface if you're sipping the smoke. I'll try it the next time I light-up a flake, but it doesn't seem very promising to me.
