Brian Rowley of Growley pipes dropped off the map just prior to the FDA insanity, and carvers are under the FDA deeming as well.

I think that individual artisans may still have some hope.
However, if we are talking meerschaum carvers . . . I don't believe many people can give you any names as mostly the ones that are coming up are not allowed to put their own name on the product. Something about needing to be in the trade for a decade or two.

In the briar category, we have ten or so carvers on Forums, probably more if we count the ones seldom seen; they go from accomplished senior carvers in their prime to a number of excellent junior carvers who show real promise, and some who are starting out but do some convincing and interesting work. I wouldn't even try to list names, since I'd leave out significant individuals by mistake. If you read Forums regularly, you'll pick up on who's who.

I think clickklick will still be around in 5-10 yrs and I plan to be as well, but of course not as a mere carver. I just enjoy the process of pipe making. I was accepted to ASU and will be going as a art major. I will be the "old fart" in the class at 46. I have my BA in criminal justice but have had enough of that crap. So at least all I will be taking are the fun classes. I had no idea there were wood working classes at university's. I am sure I will learn something I can apply to pipe making. So yeah I plan to be around in 10 yrs.

@ philobeddoe, I hope so as well. Almost 20 yrs in corrections or parole and probation burned me out. Back injury finished me off. Pipes are much easier to deal with. People on the forums are a pleasure to work with!!!!

I simply don't see how that's possible.
Say hi to your friends. They miss you. :crying:

Sorry @ cshubhra for your thread getting hijcked.
Guy in the 7th row, 2nd from the left is the shooter of Congresswoman Giffords in Tucson. We actually had him for a bit in a locked down unit. There are plenty of guys with all the tats on their faces. Worked state, federal and private, could get very interesting at times.
