I'm having a tough time trying to get a good smoke when there's a wind of even moderate strength. I've tried shielding the bowl from the wind with my hand, even with a couple of fingers arched right over the bowl, but the circulating air just seems to make the tobacco burn too hot and results in a stingy smoke in which I don't get anywhere near the flavor I get when there's no wind. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

I recommend a pipe screen you can pick one up at your local tobacconist or one of our online sponsors. They are about a couple bucks and nearly universal. They help the pipe keeping a flame and burn too hot.

Need to order a few of those. Always mean to, but forget until after the order is sent. Tried to enjoy a bowl a bit a go on back deck, and gave up. Pipe not burning right and made baccy sting and taste like old socks. :crying:

Wind caps are cheap and vital tools for the pipeman. I going on a cruise tomorrow so I packed 3 wind caps since our cabin is at the front of the ship.

Is there any real differance between the windcap above and this one from cup-a-joes?

I've set up to be notified when P&C has wind caps back in stock. Thanks again everyone; especially Uncle Arthur.

Can anyone say if the more expensive pipe cap will fit larger pipes. I have a couple of the cheaper kind but they are too small for my larger pipe (7/8 to 1 inch ID).

antipodesman, sirbogglesworth: If you by "the more expensive pipe cap" mean the one kf5eqv linked to then no, I don't think it will. I have one of those and it doesn't fit my largest pipe by a large margin, only the ones I would consider normal. It might fit in a 7/8" bowl at most. Unfortunately I can't find a ruler or I would take proper measurements u_u

Thanks for the info nemrod.

Those are the only two windcaps I have seen available, and I have the cheaper one (two actually).

The love of anything has its faults....mine is loving bigger pipes that don't have accesories to accommodate them :crying:

I guess my savi or corncob will have to do on windy days...I love long uninterrupeted smokes..repacking = :crying: ...but i'm a big boy, I'll get used to it, I guess (sigh)
