Hello, I am new to the forum and have some questions about this pipe brand. I made the switch to pipes about 2 years ago from cigars. I started on a corncob and my wife treated me to a nice boswell pipe(I love that pipe). Anyway i wanted another pipe to smoke when i go fishing and do stuff around the house. I recently got a yello-bole pipe and it smokes so hot i cant even touch it. I also notice it has a weird taste to it, almost like rust/metallic taste. What can i do to fix this issue. i do have some cake built up on the pipe so that is not the issue.
Also there is a metal piece on the end of the stem. i have removed this because my boswell pipe does not have it. I Think it might be for filters?
Any help would be great

Is it marked brylon? If so it is plastic and not wood. That would be where the strange taste is coming from.

I collect vinatge Yello Bole pipes....www.otcpipes.com. Can you post a picture of your particular pipe. Its sounds like you have one that is made of a material called "brylon". Those are famous for getting very hot. Also no yello bole pipes have ever used a filter, however they do contain a metal piece, what is commonly refered to has a "stinger". That metal piece was meant as a way to cool the smoke and reduce the gurgle effect. Most folks remove them so they can use a pipe cleaner, which is what I recommend doing. If the pipe you have is made of briar, then try smoking slower......except for some very eary models....1930's-1940's most were not made with the best of brair. SM Frank the maker of Yello Bole, also makes the Kaywoodie pipes. Briar that was not good enough to be a Kaywoodie was used to make Yello Bole's and so on. I do have some Yello Bole's in my rotation that are awesome smokers.
