This pipe is my daily smoker. I take it everywhere. I smoke a continuous bowl all day long.

Fits in a pocket nicely because it's so little. I take it driving. Walking the dog. It's so light that I can clench it while I'm climbing a hill during a long hike. I smoke PA tobacco or Carter Hall or anything cheap I can get. I'm not a fancy smoker, I'm the kind of pipe smoker my grandfather warned you about. I tamp with my finger. I have burn holes in my shirts. My dentist hates me.

So I realize I probably don't belong on this forum because I'm such a neanderthal. But I have an issue. My issue is, this pipe is getting worn out. I know one day it will give up the ghost. The problem is: I bought this pipe at an estate sale a hundred years ago. I have no idea what model of Grabow it is. I can't seem to find anything like it on eBay or Amazon, or anywhere else. Does anyone have any idea what kind of model this pipe is, and where I can find another? I own some better pipes, but I always come back to this little guy because he's like a friend to me. Small bowls. All-day smoking. Easy clenching. Nothing elaborate.

If this pipe ever leaves me, I'll have to bury it in a shoebox outside, recite the 23rd Psalm, and play Taps.

Thanks for your help!

Oh wow, thanks! I didn't expect such quick replies. Y'all are great. I'm seeing a light at the end of the tunnel. Really, the only thing wearing out is the stem, and I don't know where to get replacement Grabow stems. Maybe picking up a pipe like this from eBay would be a good place to start.

Is it an adjustomatic (screw in stem)? With few exceptions there are no ready made pipe stem replacments, stems are cut specifically for each pipe at the time of manufacturing. You may be able to find one thats close by buying another similar Dr G, but it will likely still not fit perfectly. If its an ajustomatic Dr G stem finding one that threads in is pretty easy but it will likely have to be trimmed to fit. Same goes for an aluminum filter tenon, the tenon will fit but the stem will need to be trimmed.

Another option would be to buy a pipe of similar dimensions, I have a little Ropp about that size.

Or perhaps find another small grabow bulldog on ebay and give it some artful panels with a belt sander if you want an exact copy (or even just to purloin the stem from it).

The factory will replace your stem for like $12-15 per pipe, around $3 shipping for 3-4 pipes. You can contact them through their site or by phone, just mail them the pipe(s) and a check and they'll restem, if you prefer vulcanite over abs plastic include a note, they'll accommodate if they have stock.

I have one of these in the wire rustication finish. From one Neanderthal to another.

Nice. Those Grabow Sportsman are sweet. Here's mine, wire carved Westbrook Apple.

The stem on your pipe is missing it's button
A replacement stem is going to feel quite different
Unless you perform a circumcision 😉
