Ok fella's

Today is my day off and my better half (who smokes a pipe now) is willing to drive a good distance back to where we met and went to college. I remembered a tobacco store and gave them a phone call to see what they had in the way of pipe stuff. Much to my surprise they have a nice selection.

They carry Lane bulk toby at 2.45 an oz as well as peterson toby in tins for around 12 bucks. I have no relation to any of these brands and have never really tried anything outside of 1Q. I'm looking to spend about 20-25 bucks and need suggestions.

I love flavorful aromatics, with 7 seas royal being my favorite. I also like 3 blind moose a lot but don't have a lot of it so it's saved back for special occasions. The wife likes Mac Baren's vanilla creme and loves C and D's autumn evening.
What do you guys suggest getting? I'm thinking one tin of the peterson stuff (maybe luxuray blend, based on reviews) and filling out the rest with 1 or 2 oz of the lane in bulk.

What do you guys think we would like?

IMO Peterson University Flake is a very nice smoke and from Lane you may want to try BCA.
If you pick up 1Q and BCA try mixing them 1 part BCA to 2 parts 1Q, the mix makes for a very good aromatic smoke.

Congrats on your better half.
If you are at the Peterson baccys, you may try out the Irish Flake.

It's strong so pack less and sip the lordliness.

I can't speak for the Lane offerings, I haven't tried any of them yet, but I can second University Flake, and I'll also offer Connoisseur's Choice, De Luxe Mix and Luxury Blend are all nice aromatics in the Peterson line I've had an opportunity to try.

If they have any Peter Stokkebye blends be sure to give Dansk Gold a try. But if it's only Lane blends, I think RLP-6 is a fine one. If you're into "flavorful aros" it would be hard to pass up Peterson's Connoisseur's Choice...I think it's almost like a fruitcake.... :D

If you have not tried some of the Boswell blends many here seem to like the Berry Cobbler and Rasberry Creme. I'm not much for the aros and bought some to defer to the wife nose. She actually said the Cobbler was too sweet for her. If your interested I can send you the rest of what I have in these blends. About 2 oz minus 2 bowls each. I'd rather give it to an aro smoker than toss it. If you don't like it you can always send it along to someone else. No charge, if you want it send me an address.

I heard good things about those Boswell blends. If he isn't interested then I'll take them off your hands, jcsnaps.

If you are going with Lane, I would also suggest either BCA or RLP-6. Both are comparable to Captain Black blends, but not so heavy on the PG. I would also suggest any of the Stokkebye aros. They are good quality and won't break the bank either.

Ok, well the trip got postponed until tomorrow. We needed some time to think things over :p Work has been rough this week so I think I'm going to take my tips and treat myself. I have it narrowed down to Uni Flake, as I have been dying to try a flake toby, and either SH or Irish Flake.

What do you guys think is a better offering the Sherlock homes or the Irish Flake?
