Hello All, I am pretty new to pipe smoking and so far I am loving it, as for my wife, not so much. I really would like to find a tobacco that both I like to smoke and the wife enjoys the aroma of. The pipe smoking has gotten me down to 3-4 cigarettes a day from 1+ pack per day. Any suggestions from the long time experts on here would be helpful and greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Welcome,
I'm certainly no long time expert, but I would suggest Mac Baren Vanilla Flake. It has a great room note and I think that for an aromatic it has the perfect amount of topping. It's a good quality tobacco and it has no chemical taste or smell that I often find in lesser quality aromatics, especially otc blends. I have to say that right now it is one of my favorite blends.

Welcome to the forum! Sounds like you need a good quality aromatic. Some folks dont like them, but I for one love a lot of them. Here are some of my favorites:
Lane 1Q
Lane RLP-6
MacBaren 7 Seas Tobacco (Many in this line to choose from: Original, Gold, Royal, Black and Red. All are outstanding smokes.)
CAO Moontrance
CAO Eileens Dream
WO Larsen Old Fashioned
Pipes and cigars.com has also recently rolled out their Brigadier Black tobaccos. Their Bull Run and Alamo tobaccos are fantastic taste, aroma, and are only 14.95 for a half pound of tobacco. Hope this helps!

Welcome 05, I have gotten lots of compliments on Dan Tobacco Blue Note. It's a very pleasant aromatic. You won't find it overly cased, and no goopy pipe at the end. I never get a tongue bite from it. I think it's very similar to 1Q.

Welcome. I won't recommend aros to anyone. I think McCranie's Red Ribbon has a great room note, myself.

My soon to be wife love Christmas Cookie by Boswell. She smokes with me every so often and whenever she does she goes "I want the Cookie one"
If non aero, Boswell's Magnum is nice and light.

Even after smoking indoors and out around my wife for 40 years, I have never found a tobacco that

she 'enjoys'. I smoke mostly English and Balkans, but she has never complained. I learned years

ago to talk to her, find out which tobacco's are objectionable to her and not smoke those when

she's around. The rest she just politely puts up with.

I'm sure she would like Granny's Pudding, Easter Fruitcake or Glade Plug-In but I just can't bring

myself to choke these types of tobacco down.

+1 to TopD and +100 to foggy!! In all seriousness though, I have gained limited acceptance to smoke H&H Grandma's kitchen and 1Q around the wife. If you are not into Aros, you may try Old Toby from Just for Him. I am lucky that my wife can tolerate most non latakias, but these days if I want a really good smoke I either have to give her an excuse to leave the house, or take my ass on a walk :puffy:

Being single I can and do smoke Blackhouse or GL Pease Odyssey in the bedroom, living room, kitchen, car, you get the idea. That being said the ladies at work and the occasional "visitors" to my bachelor pad have commented on favorably on a few of the tobaccos. Considering the broad spectrum of females included in this sampling, and the assumption that many of them enjoy the odor of pipe tobacco both for good memories and for the sent itself, I Believe I have done extensive research at least on the blends I have smoked for quality on scent on the females of the species Homosapien. Thus far the most aphrodisiac blends for room note are in order of best to worst.

HPCS Adirondack Series - Trout Stream

CAO- Eileens dream

Peterson -Irish Oak

A flaming bag of used kitty litter

Blackhouse

GL Pease Odyssey*

GL Pease Sextant*
Hopefully this research can be of some assistance to you in your search for a tobacco that pleases you and your mate :puffpipe:
*these two blends are often switching places in the research due to their similarity in Latakia amounts.

This is a tough one. I purchased about 15 or more aros to test in hopes of finding one my wife would like - to no avail. The real issue for my wife is the stale tobacco smell the next day.
Still, if smoking in the house (which I still do when the kids go to bed) she'd rather I smoke an aro than an English. After lots of testing, I've come to the conclusion that most aros are about equal. But for taste and aroma, my favorite aros are:
Pipeworks Rumcake
Pipeworks Wilke 191
Just do a Google search to find these blends - they are topnotch.

Thanx everyone for the advice. Just ordered me a can of "Brigadier Black Bull Run". All of the reviews sound like it should be just what I am looking for. I will report my findings next week.

Good evening All, Just got in from smokng my first bowl of Brigadier Black "Bull Run". Awesome tobacco!! Really enjoyed it, I am pretty new to pipe smoking but I know what I like and I like Bull Run. I don't think anyone would be disappointed with a purchase of this tobacco.

If you're looking for a tobacco blend with a pleasing aroma I'd say stay away from English blends. There are plenty of good aromatic blends that you can enjoy smoking and the Mrs. can enjoy being around. Lane's 1Q is definitely the first try. I've mostly heard "it smells like roasting marshmellows". Then there's the Mac Baren's 7 Seas line as mentioned above and McClelland's Premium Aromatic line is good for taste and room note approval. I'd definitely suggest this year's Peterson Holiday Season blend. It's fading fast as it's a limited edition blend, but the room note and flavor in that blend is amazing.
