Well I made an interesting discovery this morning. My fiance and I are staying at her parents house while they're on vacation and they have a large pool. I woke up at the typical 5 am. I felt froggy this morning and thought I would swim some laps while my fiance slept. So I put on my swim trunks and headed to the pool. I then proceeded to remove my prostetic leg and hopped in. This is where my idea headed down hill. I haven't went swimming ance my surgery and figured I was a certified diver and would be just fine. WRONG! I had failed to think of the loss of my leg changing my boyancy. Well I hopped in and found out very quickly I couldn't swim like a fish anymore. I remembered from dive school to bounce of the bottom and when I would break the surface to take in air. So I bounced up and down all the way back to the shallow end and then drug myself out of the pool. Let's just say lesson learned.

I guess that every day you'll meet challenges like this and learn to overcome them. You don't need me to tell you that most disadvantaged people learn quickly, and learn not just to match, but to exceed the abilities of we who are "all in one piece". Having said all that, it seems that you just had the one chance to overcome this particular challenge! Next time take a pipe with you - it might give you that extra 6" to the surface. That's what Popeye would have done. :D

Many years ago I got caught in a current that took me out into deep water much over my head.I was young and could swim well at the time.It was still a very scary experience though..Be careful..Learn and adapt and you will do just fine.

I'm glad you kept your head about you, and that you are alright.

It's good that your training overrode any panic that may have set in.
I think a church warden is a good idea. :D

Wow dude. Glad to hear you came out of that ok. I guess I can't fully relate, but I can tread water and move about pretty well without the use of my legs.
Did your boyancy change so much that you can't use just your arms?
Or did surprize and panic just catch you off guard?

@Spartan believe it or not it did change my boyancy that much. Just paddling with my arms wasn't working right, the physics of it weren't right.
