Looking ahead to the Chicago Show, I thought I'd do another one of these.
From his web site: "Thomas James, a Northwestern Pennsylvania pipe artisan, hand-carves high grade briar into beautiful, smooth smoking tobacco pipes. All stems are hand cut from the finest Ebonite, Cumberland and Cast Acrylic rods."
I met Thomas at the Columbus show 2 and a half years ago. Our tables were behind each other so we hung out all day talking, me looking at his pipes and him eyeing my Dupont 007 lighter. At the end of the day we made a straight up trade; my lighter for the smooth egg you see below. It turns out the lighter was a Chinese fake, but we ended making the deal right. Though I usually prefer sandblasts, the smooth egg is a phenomenal pipe. The engineering is perfect, the button work is as good as it gets and the bowl capacity is pretty darn HUGE. And just LOOK at it!
A few months after I got the egg, I picked this blasted Dublin on the estate market. The bowl capacity is a little smaller than you'd expect, so I don't smoke this as often as other pipes. But like the Egg, it's an outstsanding pipe.
